Starting with naturally-pure esker water, Mons Abbey Witte is brewed from a blend of malted and unmalted wheat, harvested in Western Canada. It’s hopped with Styrian Gold hops, and Hallertau Hersbrucker hops give it aroma. A hint of coriander and orange peel give it a unique citrusy bouquet. Before you open a bottle, chill it to around 40°, and then tilt the glass and pour, allowing a nice head to form. Reserve the final ounce and pour it into a shot glass, yeast and all… and decide if you or your guest gets the flavorful brewer’s yeast. Mons Abbey Witte is delicious with lighter seafood dishes such as steamed mussels, with herb cheese or mascarpone, and with citrusy desserts such as crepes, sorbet, or panna cotta with orange or lemon. Salut!

    Purchased at a local IGA store. Be careful with this cork, as they seem to be a little loose and pop-away as soon as the cage is off (active carbonation not helping as well). Pours a hazy light golden colour with a white, bubbly-fizzy head, average retention and a little lacing. Lots of spices in the nose with citrus and mild sour notes, reminding me of a Belgian Ale and not so much, a witbier (similar to their Blonde I just had last week). Same for taste, but a little milder. The difference is in the finish with some wheat grains and hints of honey. So, a decent brew that does not shock with crazy character, but a little all over the place with their description and what style they really wanted to do here.
