Foundation is a saison brewed in the French style. It is copper colored and extremely dry with layers of complex flavors and aromas including hints of lemon, grass, straw, and spice. Foundation started life as the base beer for BRUX Domesticated Wild Ale, a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Russian River Brewing Co. The resulting base beer was so delicious we decided to brew another batch without the “wild” yeast to allow the base flavors to shine.

Sampled on 5/26/2012. This saison pours a light gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, with a touch of yeast and spices. A medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice carbonation. A touch sweet and a touch yeasty. Not really spicy enough for a saison, its more of a Belgian ale somewhere between a blond and a dubble. Very easy drinking. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
