Orange County is surrounded by fantastic breweries these days and in the spirit of the growing local craft beer movement, we have decided to team up with some of our friends for a series of collaboration ales. The first beer is Chocosaurus Rye, which we brewed with the fine folks of Bootlegger’s Brewery. Located less than four miles from our own brewery and started within months of each other, Bootlegger’s have been great friends of ours since the beginning and it seemed fit to brew our first local collaboration with them. Chocosaurus Rye is an amalgamation of our two breweries styles: a dark rye lager that was finished with cacao nibs and vanilla beans. There aren’t many lagers that work well in the winter, but this one, full of rye spice and chocolate should do the trick.

This was a better even than expected treat. The chcocolate was rich and decadent without being the slightest bit cloying or overly sweet. The rye was present as a slight spiciness in both aroma and a little moreso in the flavor. SUPER smooth. with an aftertaste of roasted malt, rye, and vanilla/cocoa. I could drink this all day...

didn't think i'd get to try this, happy to see it though! .. pours a deep bark brown .,. medium foam, lacing is good .. . good dose of rye and some cooking chocolate .. . good bold mouthfeel, a bottle by myself would be no problem .. . a good brew but i thought, even from the name, it would have been amazing .. . . do you know what a hammer is?

Sampled at Bruery Provisions on 2/27/2012. This rye beer pours a dark brown color from the tap. Medium sized beige/tan head. The aroma is chocolate, fruity and sweet, with some oak and spiciness. A medium to full bodied rye beer. The malts are chocolate, fruity, roasty, spicy and sweet. The hops are earthy. Lots of semi-sweet chocolate flavors balanced by some nice rye spiciness. There is also some nice vanilla notes in here as well. Good carbonation. Nice balance. Very smooth and full tasting beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Smooth and slinky dark brew. Dry and grainy rye along with moderate roast and cocoa flavors. Malty and fairly sweet. Dark body with a thin head and spotty lacing. Easy drinking and satisfying.
