What's in a name? Uranus by any other name is would smell so sweet. That was written many moons ago by Toftorg Golshop, Ruler of the Third Empire of Uranus on one of his many voyages to earth (it was stolen and rewritten by "you know who" sometime later) And while on earth for one of those trips, Toftborg grew fond of the rich robust stouts of Northern England. Designed to withstand the grueling voyage from Earth to Uranus. Long Dark Voyage is a Uranal stout of the highest order. Ass puckeringly bitter, dry as a bone and spiked with star anise, this dark chocolate treat is quite dangerous and will sneak up on you from behind if you don't keep your wits about you. You've been warned. And just for good measure, this ale was aged on oak spirals, so there's wood in Uranus. 8.5% ABV, 85 IBU and 2.57 billion SRM, this decadent treat is loaded with rich, sinful flavours of chocolate and espresso. It has a big bitter kick though, so approach with caution… this is not for the faint of heart.

Thanks to PaleAleRider for finding a bottle for me. Now written 9% ABV. Pours a dark black colour with very little ruby highlights. The beige head is big, creamy, has great retention and loads of creamy lacing. Aromas of roasted malt with some dark fruits getting stronger with time and hints of nuts and vanilla. The mouthfeel is kind of light and goes down smoothly as not much burning. Lots of hop creating some bitterness in the taste. This overpowers the roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits and coffee notes. A hoppier-than-average Imperial Stout.

Pours a thick creamy brownish head and has a dark brown appearance, almost pitch black. Thick patchy lacing. Aromas of chocolate, toffee and light vanilla notes as well as rye and sweet malts. There is a slight alcohol scent as well. Flavours of dark chocolate malts, coffee, nuts. The hops used don't stick out enough as the malts are too much of a force. Alcohol is fairly strong and noticeable, but quite inoffensive. Nice warming sensation, lively carbonation. Slight astringent mouthfeel as well as creamy and slick. Great taste overall, an abundance of malts well blended. Good stuff and gets better as it warms up.

Not a good looker but tasty. Near black pour. A thin layer of bubbles forms the head for at least ten seconds. Leaves no lace. Dark chocolate aroma. Plenty of flavour, which would encourage me to look for it on draught. Roasted malt, very dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, licorice and a bit of smoke. Medium smooth mouthfeel with quite a bitter dry finish. Worth another try.

On Tap @ Gambrinus - poured blacker than a tax collector’s heart, 1 finger tight-pored cap, very soft carbonation. Big coffee/roast tones in the aroma as well as some dark fruts a touch of vanilla and some wet hay. Big hefty body and substantial mouth feel, roasty-coffee-fruity in front with a decent hop bite - long drying finish. A really satisfying drink

The beer poured a very dark brown with blackened hues. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, molasses, and licorice. The mouthfeel was medium-full bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was bitter coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and some citrusy backdrops. Quite bitter.
