Pleasantly hoppy, Snow Day carries the subtle chocolate and caramel flavors of a new brewing malt known as Midnight Wheat. The Styrian Golding, Centennial and Cascade hops bring the backbone of hoppy bitterness to complement the roasty undertones. This beer is the deep garnet of a roasted walnut and presents a creamy tan head, floating artfully atop. Snow Day is bold and hoppy, drinkable and strong. It reminds you to enjoy the unexpected.

Pours a dark chocolate color with large tan head that fades quickly leaving a little lace. The aroma is roasted malts hops. The taste follows the aroma. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated .

    12oz bottle -

Aroma - medium piney hop punch, chocolate graham crackers, very light roast notes

Appearance - dark mahogany brown body, mostly clear with a 2-finger tan head, medium head retentio, light lacing

Mouthfeel - medium carbonation, medium bodied

Flavor - medium sweetness, notes of grapefruits and chocolate malts, nicely balanced

Overall - after several recent misses from NB, this was very nice. Priced well and tasty. There are better black ales out there though.

I picked up a sixer of this beer from the Sheetz in Salem, VA on East Main Street. Boy New Belgium is solid - they put out solid consistent beers. This is a very nice hoppy beer. More pine than citrus, but it is appropriate. Flavors of the evergreen in winter!

This is another American Black Ale that fails to impress. Plenty of hop bitterness but lacking the fruitiness of an IPA. Lots of burnt, roasted malts but lacking the depth of a good black ale. The result seems to be the least common denominator between the styles--no complexity or depth.

Nice dark winter ale. Dark head that lasts, not too much carbonation. Nice balance of flavor between hops and the malts. A bit of spiciness adds to the holiday feel.

more on the black side than the ipa side, if that makes any sense. like a robust porter or light stout with some pine and citrusy hops thrown in the mix. lots of roasted malt and a little chocolate, light-medium body, smooth. easy drinking nice new seasonal.

What an attractive beer. A dark red pour with a frosty white cap. Snow day indeed. Aroma is of Christmas trees! The mouthfeel is thick and smooth. But wait a minute. This tastes like a cheap pine 2X4 wrapped in newpaper. The finish is of formaldehyde. Really? I expected more from an up and coming brewer.

I didn't catch as much of the roastiness, although I wasn't looking for it either and reading about its presences certainly does not surprise me. The aroma is quite weak but the hops offer a good dose of bitter on the back end. The creamy head stuck around and cascaded all the way down the glass. I love that cathedral window effect!

Tap. Black body with a light khaki head. Malty nose with chocolate and prunes. There is also some black tea with a hint of roast. The taste is light cola and milk chocolate. There is also some light prunes and hints of black tea. Nicely done. Not very hoppy, I would have guessed that this was a stout.

A really nice clear dark looking beer topped with a rich thick head, its a well made beer certainly. It was pretty average after that, week nose for an ipa, mouthfeel was pretty thin, flavor was not lively and didn't make me think ipa though there is a deffinite resin presence and finish.
