Beer Style: Dry-hopped Rye Saison Ale Hop Variety: Bravo, Hersbrucker & Tettnang (aroma + dry-hop) Malt Variety: Two-row barley, rye malt, chocolate malt, acidulated malt, caramunich malt Yeast Variety: Proprietary blend of five Belgian yeasts. OG: 1.069 ABV: 8.12% IBU: 40 Color: Tawny Availability: Bottled in May 2011. One and done. For this year’s celebratory brew, we decided to focus on the characteristics that certain yeasts bring to the party. Each of the five Belgian yeasts selected adds its own unique aspect to the flavor and aroma of this saison. The hefty addition of rye helps dry this beauty out and lends another spicy component to the flavor. And for added fun, we dry-hopped it, too! Take your time and smell and taste the complexities that Eighteen has to offer. Food Pairing: Try pairing Eighteen with wild game, diver scallops with pineapple mango chutney, or a potato lentil soup.

Strong aroma has a fruity and yeasty overtone, rather like a good hefeweizen. It pours a clear, dark brownish amber with a typical pale golden-tan head. Malty flavor has firm fruity and hoppy notes, with just a little bitterness and a hint of caramel. Smooth, edgy texture has good body and leaves a woody, slightly sweet finish.

uh.. Senator Lermin is visiting some of the students... dark murky pond brown .. excellent lacing .. corn nuts, booze, brandy vapors, and barley .. . a big brew, but young with no direction.. not worthy of an anniversary release.. . you boys get off your bikes and get to class!

how'd i miss 16? had 15...17. they've been solid, but this one is the best yet. very nice aroma of columbus hops and some barnyard and fruit. flavor similar. very nice though it doesn't quite pop as much as the flavor. a little thick for a traditional saison but i didn't mind it at all. strong in flavor, but no hint of the 8.2%. well done.

It pours a hazy copper with no head and no lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, peppers, oranges, rye bread, and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, citrus, peppers, rye bread, and spiciness. Very good!

An amber colored beer with a smally, soapy textured, off white head rising briefly above. It settles into a thin ringlet that sweeps up a thin film as glass is tipped. The nose is faint yeats and rye. Medium bodied and well carbonated.

22oz bottle, bottled 5/2011. Pours a copper amber with a creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is spicy yeast with some bready malts and a little fruit (banana).

The flavor is earthy malts and yeast and a little old fruit with a bit of a zing from the hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall, an OK saison. I liked it better on draft.
