The Bruery Cuir

It took me 10 minutes to cut the wax off this bad boy and I split it between two snifters. The pour was a hazy brown with a thin, whispy white head that caps the beer nicely. The aromas don't give too many hints as to what is in store, as it is dominated mostly by alcohol. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, but this is definitely a sipper and I enjoyed it more at room temperature than cellar. Vanilla and oak notes up front are quickly bombarded by a caramal/burnt sugar quality, although it is pleasant. The finish gives way to the barrel as there are faint notes of wood and vanilla to finish. I enjoyed this quite a bit, but due to the sweetness I think I would prefer the 100% barrel aged. I have another bottle in the cellar and I think that age should cool this down quite a bit, but still highly recommended.

Bottle gifted to me by a friend. A nice golden brown pour with a bit of haze and an off-white head. Nose is sweet malt, toffee, spice, and grains. Flavour is mildly sweet with malt and sugar while the hops do add a nice bitter finish. Alcohol is hidden in the aroma but is noticeable in the flavour.

Huge. Pours dark brown with a lilty ringlet head. Very much wants to be a barleywine, lots of oak, whiskey, chocolate - sugary sweet goodness abounds. Definitely a sipper.

This review is for the 100% Barrel Aged Cuir shared amongst three of us this past weekend. A great looking pour leads to an abundant aroma that filled the air. Very dark and thick with a huge brown head. Oak, bourbon, vanilla, mixed berries, chocolate, leather, toast, and bran cereal are all in abundance and share the floor in friendly fashion. Fairly sweet and extremely thick, the mouth feel was very nice but the sticky sweetness was a tad too firm. Amazing sipper.

lots of sweet cherry and wood, with some bourbon sweetness in there as well. i had to ask if this was open fermented or what (didn't really get an answer) as the tap version was far more tart and wild leaning than the bottle, and tasted little like last year's anniversary beer. not super hot, but not a quaffer at 14% either. good stuff!

Sampled at the Bruery Provisions on 6/4/2011. This is the 100% Bourbon Barrel aged version that is only available to the Reserve Society members. This old ale pours a dark amber brown color. Small to medium sized beige/tan foamy head. The aroma is bourbon, brown sugar, malts, tobacco, oak and sweet. A medium to full bodied old ale. The malts are fruity, caramel, tobacco, oak and sweet. Lots or bourbon and brown sugar/molasses flavors as well. Hops are herbal. Mild carbonation. Lots of complex flavors mixing and matching in this beer. There is a definite alcohol presence here, but it seems to help the flavors, its more of one of the flavors and not a hindrance to the flavors. It is 14.5%, but doesn’t seem like it. This beer has an excellent aging potential. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet, with some brown sugar and alcohol.

I found this beer a couple weeks ago at the Green Dragon in Portland. A barrel aged delight in a 10oz snifter. Dark brown, almost black. Off-white head and moderate lacing. Slightly apple fruit flavor with hints of chocolate and dark fruit, and a touch of cherry sweetness. Plenty of alcohol, but hey, it's 14.5%! Medium-full body. Maple syrup flavors as it warms up. Very nice.
