VERY nice. Pours black black black with a HUGE HUGE tan head. Burnt aroma (in a good way). Mouthfeel is round and bouncy. Flavor is as expected, and as big as I expect from an Imperial. Excellent job!

I know this beer has a few years on it, as I received it in a trade back in '07. Man this is one seriously fantastic beer. I enjoyed every drop of this one, and tried licking the inside of my glass so as to not waste any of it. I enjoyed it that much.

The aroma has so many levels of goodness it's difficult on where to start. The first things that really jumped out at me was the old leather and tobacco notes (Captain Black if anyone remembers this smell). Vanilla, lightly blackened malt, and scorched dark chocolate really round out the nose. Appearance is jet black, oily with some great legs. Head was 1/2" thick, brown and scant in appearance. Flavor has a fantastic dark chocolate angle that just keeps going for days. Slightly smokey with just a smidge of ash that I enjoyed in the minimal amount that was there. Whoppers, more pipe tobacco, vanilla and raisins really round out the rest of this great beer. I don't recall who sent it my way, but a sincere thank you. Great, great beer.

KCC 7: Saturnalia! So, is it Russian Imperial Stout (RIS), or Imperial Russian Stout (IRS)? If it were up to this beer, the Czarina would've been called Catherine the Pretty Good. It's just not Great. 1/2 inch rocky tan head after a vigourous pour from the 12 oz. bottle. Opaque black color, with ruby tints around the edges. One can smell the alcohol and the barrel in the dank aroma. I could feel the alcohol hitting my brain as if it'd been directly injected. Musty aftertaste made me want to scrape my tounge. Overall, pretty good. Tame, compared to Old Rasputin. As you can tell, I love this beer!

Nice, very dark copper color in the pour; ample head but thin lacing. Chocolatey aroma with strong chocolate malt taste. A little too harsh for my liking. Nice finish.

Dark, dark brown. A little chunky because I got the last pour. The aroma is nice. Chocolatey. A bit of alcohol. A bit sweet. A touch of anise. Well balance but big. Me gusta.

Poured an opaque black color with a small, tan head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of dried fruits, smoke, roasted malts, and sweet chocolate. Vanilla beans dominated the taste, with some roast and smoke in the background, light chocolate, and no alcohol in the taste.
