After years of commemorating our anniversary with deliciously wild and weird ales, we decided to mix it up a bit and create our first Anniversary Lager. SEVENTEEN is a celebration and case study of the aromas and flavors of German hops. And knowing our fetish for those beautiful green cones, you can be confident that the contents of this bottle are excessively hopped for your olfactory pleasure. Many thanks to all and we hope you enjoy our lupulin dissertation. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, imported German hops, and German yeast.

This was an alright schwarzbier, most authtntic German schwarzbiers are around the 5% mark in ABV, and this comes in a lot higher. As it's a lager, the higher alcohol content is extremely noticeable. Would not try again.

pours a thick dark brown with a large cream colored head that lasted throughout, producing some excellent sticky lacing. The aroma was of burnt chocolate malts, grassy hops and a leathery yeast with notes of chocolate, licorice and a smidgen of dark fruit (plums and raisins). The taste was sweetly bitter and rather malty with a note of chocolate early on and then progressed into this smooth bitter taste with hint of licorice, a small dose of dark fruit and a nice amount of hops at the end. The mouthfeel was medium in body and creamy yet dry in texture with a medium carbonation.

Bottled (thanks omhper). Deep amber, close to black colour, small beige head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted malts, quite big on roasted barley and ashes. Flavour is roasted malts, ashes, mild fruityness. and mild earthy notes.

Wish list item - from Bad Ass Suds McDuff. Thinnish black pour with a perfect dark cream head that is well-lived and sustained and massive lacing. Dark chocolate, sweet roasted malts, light vanilla, Noble-like hops in the appealing aromas. Mouthfeel is creamy - taste, exquisite: light vanilla and cocoa, sweet caramel malts, earthy hops balance. What a fantastic freaking beer! HUGE thanks to the Suds Man.

Bottle May 2010: I was hoping this would be better, but hey...I'm a newbie when it comes to schwarz's, especially an imperial. I think I may prefer a lighter schwarz better. I found this a little bitter as well, roasty, whatever you wanna call it. Decent flavor but nothing really outstanding. Maybe the balance not working that well for me. Found the mouthfeel a bit on the rusty side. Nice to try, but feelin the coin coulda been used to sample something better.

Aug. 2010 - Thanks to my buddy, eaglefan538 for sharing. Dark pour, frothy head and strong pine aroma. Weird for an imperial lager. Roasty with mild smokiness, hints of sweet licorice but with a strong pine bitterness. It does make me think they were brewing asomething, screwed it up, and decided to imperialize it and throw in a hard hop presence to cover it up. Okay beer overall.

This is where this review belongs...hopefully I can have the erroneous review deleted. Extremely dark color...I can't tell if it is dark coffee brown or regular black. Rich, copious head, lots of lacing on the glass. Strong roasted malt flavor, enough hops to stop the sweetness from dominating the profile. This perfect balance made this beer thoroughly enjoyable. Not hints of hot alcohol. this beer is full and easy to drink. Wonderful. Consistency reminds me of a velvet painting I would have found at a gas station along Route 46 in NJ...so smooth and dark...but rather one-dimensional. My brother left this at my house on New Year's Eve, I wanted to share it with a friend tonight, but ended up finishing it before he arrived. Oh well. His loss.

Dark, blackness in the color of this fine beer. Big frothy textured, tan head rises above. And stays around awhile. Eventually settles into a lot of film on the sides of the glass and a thin soapy ringlet. The nose is roasted malt. The taste is rosted malt and some bittering coffee. Some floraland citrus hops there as well, making this full bodied, creamy beer a really pleasant drink.

Not Kidding you... it is that good... The nose is huge on this one. Roasted coffee, chocolate, hops, Burnt sugar. Pours dark brown with a very rich and creamy tannish head that last just nicely. Medium to full body with great carbonation, fantastic and pleasing to the palate and a crisp and smooth finish. Flavor is sweet and a tad bitter on the back. The hops are wonderfully noted with every sip because you get a nice citrus finish. Full of chocolate and roasted malt flavors. If i did not work so well I would think it was a bit sweet but it was just fun to drink. This is a fantastic job....!!!! "

Pours out in a nearly black colour with a small creamy tan-coloured head. Solid malty aroma of roasted malts, milky chocolate and roasted nuts. Medium to full-bodied with notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts and mild pine. Quite a bubbly and airy mouthfeel. Long salty finish of roasted malts, black chocolate, licorice mineraly hops and mild resin. Quite tasty Imperial Schwarz..
