Although usually identified with landfills and pipelines, the Hackensack Meadowlands is an amazingly diverse ecosystem providing vital animal and plant habitat. In a nod to a once common food plant here, we’ve brewed this beer with wild rice. We also added organic brown and white rice, as well as pils and pale malts. Rice helps the beer ferment dry to better showcase the five different hops we added. Lots and lots of them. We then dry-hopped this Double IPA with even more–generous additions of Chinook and Citra hops to create a nose that hints at tangerine, mango, papaya and pine. This beer pairs extremely well with spicy foods and all kinds of seafood. And of course, it’s quite enjoyable all by itself.

Pours clear light amber with a fairly thick and frothy eggshell head. Aroma is mainly hoppy with hay and woody notes, and a fruity undertone that is mainly citrus. Hoppy flavor is somewhat bitter, with weak fruity notes and a hint of - is that wild rice? Not impressive, but refreshing. Texture is thin but fizzy, leaving a nice hoppy finish. An interesting ex-beer-iment.

A bright yellow colored beer with a three finger frizzy white head that rises briefly above. Light sticky film and thick ringlet are left behind. Grapefruit/citric nose. All hops, little malt in the tasting. But tis effervescent blend of citric and grassy hops is quite refreshing.

Badabing...it's an IPA from Jersey! Actually quite good too. A little light for a DIPA. Not rich on malt which gives it a lighter/smoother feel. Some good bitter hops though. First time I had a wild rice IPA, and it works well. Will most likely get again.

Not bad. Had this several times on tap recently. The wild rice gives it a very distinct characteristic. Cloudy reddish-amber colour, modest head. Nose is unique. Sort of grassy, mostly earthy. Flavors are modestly hopped, sweet clean palate.

Sampled at GABF on 9/18/2010. This Imperial India Pale Ale pours a slightly hazy light gold color from the tap. The aroma is fruity and sweet, floral hops. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity and floral. Nice carbonation. Crisp and clean with a nice hoppy finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

22 oz. bottle obtained at Total Wine in Claymont, DE and poured into a Duvel tulip. Pours a cloudy amber with a smallish off-white head which quickly goes to a light coating but lasts. Lacing was thinner but lasting. Nose is oranges, grapefruit and lemon grass with floral, and grassy notes. Taste was a well-balanced combination of lemons, oranges, pineapple with some sweet malts. The finish is dry and crisp, only moderately bitter. It was fairly light bodies and no hint of the ABV. I would revisit this absolutely.
