More from my many trips through the singles section of the beer aisle at Trader Joes (at place that doesn't care you break up six-packs, either). And while I know I've had various beers from the Mendocino Brewing Company from both bottle and draught at the Hopland brewpub, I'm sure I don't remember having this before. It's an odd one, that's for sure.

More of a bitter Wheat ale than a light/golden Pale Ale, this reminds of the time that I wanted to brew a standard American Hefeweizen, and screwed up the math, and ended up with a very bitter (albeit tasty) wheat ale. Same deal here, I suspect. This even has the signature big-ass head of foam that comes with the extra proteins found in wheat-based beers.

Hybrid beer or not, it's not bad at all. It's been a long time since I've had an "old school" Cascade-only ale, and this is certianly showing it's age (supposedly first brewed 20 years ago). The mouthfeel is a bit too slick for my taste, and as a result, the drinkability take a hit in my book, but overall, this is not the worst example of the Golden Ale "style". (Probably more interesting if it was off the tap, but that's another thing altogether).

Light gold color, small head. Mild ale with a slight hop flavor, nice malty taste. Finish is crisp, not a lot of bitterness. Crisp and mild. Nice flavor

Pretty average looking golden ale..that is light golden colour, tiny white head, minimal lace. The aroma is weird, maybe Im going crazy ( or nuts) but i detect roasted peanuts in the shell..salty strange. Flavour is almost lager like again I get a faint taste of rosted peanut..sickly aftertaste. Pretty average on the palate..aftertaste is not good though. Not that drinkable..a bad Golden ale

Is this a joke?!?!?! Did Mendocino secretly put Coors Light into a nice looking bottle and charge $7.50 for a sixer? Pour looks like a cheap swill beer, yellow and bubbly, only with no head. Aroma is of cheap swill with a weird sweetness to it (kind of like cheap wine). Taste and mouthfeel are that of Coors Light and cheap wine. I am dumbfounded here...
