“Big, red, and a hop monster!” 1 This is the first time we’ve ever released the Imperial/Double Red style. 2 We used more pounds of hops per barrel than any beer we’ve ever made. 3 We used Chinook hops in the brewhouse for bittering and flavor, then dry-hopped this beer with a 50/50 blend of Simcoe and Centennial. 4 As an added bonus, we then dry-hopped it again, just prior to filtering and packaging. That’s right, our popular double dry-hopped process, for the first time ever in one of our bottled beers! Stone 13th Anniversary Ale pours brilliant deep red with a light tan foam. Up front, the aroma is all piney, resinous and citrus hops. Upon tasting, the hops are still on the front, and they are balanced with the malty, toffee like flavors contributed from the blend of crystal and amber malts used in the brewhouse. The finish is deliciously bitter, with a touch of warmth provided by the 9.5% alcohol. Bitterness comes in at 90+ IBU. Rated in Aug. 2009. Ratebeer rating #2500. Courtesy of sebletitje. Pours deep clear amber with nice tan head. The aroma is full of hops with sweet citrus moving into pine and grassiness and with some sweet maltiness in the background. The taste is much the same with a full base of malty goodness that gets crushed by a boat load of hops. I get pine and grassiness with some citrus in the back mixing with a modest level of malts and a thin layer of caramel. It doesn’t smell or taste like the hoppiest Stone brew. Maybe they meant happiest. IMO there are a couple I thought were hoppier. Maybe it’s my changing palate.

Bottle from SL. Poured an orange brown with an off white head. Pine citrus hops with some floral notes. Caramel, raisins, molasses type aspects in the toffee malt base. Darned bitter and resembled the Arrogant B, but not nearly as good. Acidity and astringency the drawbacks on this one. Was disappointed after all the hype. Maybe I need to hit this again, since I was predisposed to expect liquid gold or something like that?

Well...pours dark red with a decent head and lacing. Aroma is sweet smoke. Hoppy to say the least. Mouthfeel is hops. Flavor is hops with a bit piney citrus splash on the tongue. All around decent.

Pours a deep reddish-amber effervescent body with a thick billowy tan head. Clean, rich full bitter hop aroma; pine & grapefruit. Full, smooth mouthfeel. Bitter tase blends rich caramel with pithy grapefruit flavors and a touch of smoke and alcohol. Big, bold, hoppy, rich, bitter, smooth, tremendous, dynamite. My oh my, many thanks to bluesandbarbq. Sept 2009 - Dark brown color, smallish head and some lacing. An overpowering aroma and flavor of caramel malts with strong pine hops. This reminded me of Old Guardian in many ways. Strong alcohol burn, but not detracting. Nice.

Bottled (thanks omhper!). Ruby colour, small head. Aroma is hops, sticky alcohol, more hops and alcohol. Flavour is rather much the same. Very Stone-like hoppy super IPA, but sadly I don't like this type of hoppyness in a beer...

I don't mean to cause you harm, and i won't ... pours a dark tan ruby . . decent low head . average lacing . . pretty nice bracing bitterness. . abv is well done . . it's enrico palazzo! . . rusty pine hops, fyoo! that's an adult beverage for ya!! its a cheers!

Bottle, RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Unfresh aroma, notes of stale marmalade, American caramel malts and American hops. Distinct and bitter flavour of American hops, on a background of caramel malts.

Bottle: Poured a deep dark amber color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of citrus hops with a grassy feel and deep caramel malt also noticeable. Taste is also a mix between some grassy earthy hops with some deep caramel malt and a light toffee aftertaste. Body is a bit thin for the style with good carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Well done though maybe a tad too one-dimensional.

Pours out in an evil lava-red hazy colour with a small creamy off-white head. Rich, rough, resinous and sappy aroma of pine-cones, caramel-sauce, burnt caramel, roses, grapefruit and roasted malts. Full-bodied with strong notes of grapefruit, red oranges, resin, grass, mild pepper on a foundation of subtle burnt caramel and rye bread. Long really bitter finish of grapefruit, blood-grape, lemon-zest and grass with subtle caramely undertones. Quite brilliant!!
