Allagash Confluence Ale is created with a mixed fermentation; utilizing our house primary Belgian style yeast in combination with our proprietary Brettanomyces strain. The two yeast strains work in tandem creating a marriage between spice and fruit flavors that ultimately leave a lingering silky mouth feel. Confluence is brewed with a blend of both imported pilsner and domestic pale malts as well as a portion of caramel malt, resulting in a complex malty profile. Tettnang and East Kent Golding hops are added in the brew process to balance the intricate malty profile while adding a sweet and spicy citrus aroma. After fermentation, Confluence undergoes a lengthy aging process in stainless steel tanks to enhance the flavors. Prior to bottling, it is dry hopped with a Glacier hops, providing a pleasant balance of aromas. Confluence is then bottle conditioned and aged in our cellar prior to release. his poured a cloudy golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some lemons, vinegar, and a bit of funk. Very bretty. The flavor contains some citrus and spices with only a slight sour flavor going on. This is a wild ale with training wheels but overall its very good.

Bottle pour is a murky yellow with tons of carbonation and a frothy white head. Aroma of citrus - mainly lemon - along with a Brett funky/spiciness. This is really complex brew with notes of apple and pear and distinct black pepper to go along with the funky tartness. The bottle I sampled was 20 months old and the bretts have really taken ahold of this beer. It's a very nice wild, albeit a tad pricey.

Comes out of the tap a dark honey golden with a thick, fine-bubbled, cream-color head that sticks around for a while and leaves generous lacing. Crisp aroma has a strong overtone of apple, rather like a cider. Lip-smacking flavor has a malty core and a strong, slightly sweet, slightly tart apple overtone and a whisper of butterscotch. Firm texture has a good amount of tingle and fizz, leaving a nice fruity and tart finish.

My initial reaction to the first sip was "Oh...it's an Orval". MMMMMMmmmmmmmm. Pours fuzzy lemon orange with a white lilty head. Aroma is light fruit. Mouthfeel is round with a nice sharp bite in the middle. Flavor is light fruit and yeast. A little out of control but interesting enough to keep your attention.

Bottle from SL, another nice one for Ally! The pour was golden to amber in color, large fluffy pillowy head, rings of lacing on down. The aroma was pilsy malts, light fruits, bready yeast. The flavor followed, some strong white grapes, firm pilsy malt backbone (a bit too much for my personal liking, but if you like pils malts, this was strongly pilsed and Belgian!), strong floral hop notes, bready yeast, and a great bret-y tart finish to each sip. A very nice Belgian Ale, some spicey/citrusey zing to the finish too.

Bottle: Poured a hazy orangey color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of dry Brett notes with a lightly sweet malt profile and some dry European style hops. Taste is quite refreshing with some clear Brett notes that are well balance with the lightly sweet malt backbone. Dry hops also provide some further enjoyment. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well done and refreshing for the style.

aaaaaaahhhh! surprise death cork on this one, undid the cage, turned to change the channel, and boom! slight gusher, bought about 6 months ago..drank 6:19pm august 25th 2009.. . pours a simmering gold with lots of champpagin style bubbles.. very spritzy! .. . i want to sail around the world.. . fantastic amount and orientation of foam .. . lots of playful bretty goodness, light bitterness with small whiffs of tropical fruit, wonderfully light yet assertive.. . this is a very easy and fun beer to drink... what about the terrorists? that's right, terrorists... this would be ridiculous on tap! OK, some free associations from my infancy. A beach ball. A Dog. A Log. A poodle. A Noodle. A doodle. ..

A very good American made Belgian Strong Alem albeit a little pricey. It pours a nice golden red colour with a 1-2" fluffy cap. The aroma was fruity, with yeast, and grainy malt. The flavour was very similar.

crazy complex mix of fruits, spices, hops, and malts, while still managing tobe fairly light and refreshing on the palate, especially for a stronger beer. the brett is actually barely noticeable, but lends another level of complexity. still renews the debate whether or not Allagash is worth the price (after all, I'd hope a $16 bottle of beer would be good) but this was unique enough and cool enough to be worth it...just not often.

Allagash is on a roll. Poured a nice light amber color with nice fluffy head. Aroma was of light fruits and yeast. Flavor was much the same, pils malts and white grapes, floral hops and nice bready yeast. Solid beer good one for sure.
