Beer Description:
What would you get if you could put two pints of Santa Fe Brewing's State Pen Porter into one glass? To celebrate Santa Fe Brewing Company's 20th birthday, we decided to find out. Pour this bottle into a clean glass, admire the thick brown head billowing above the inky black depths of the glass, and enjoy the sweet, complex aroma. This ale has been oak-aged to enhance its inimitable earthy flavor, so you may detect flavors that remind you of Bordeaux, along with notes of caramel apricot, and tobacco. The sweet malty flavor on the tip of your tongue is quickly dispersed by a high alcohol percentage, and tempered by roasty, dry, chocolate flavors as the heavy body fills your mouth. As it goes down, enjoy the sharp, clean ring of hop bitterness, an lingering esters in your nose and mouth. When you hear that lonesome whistle, don't hang your head and cry, but open this bottle of State Pen Imperial Porter. As we turn 21 you can expect this beer to mellow. The oak flavors will become softer and more complex as they meld and mature with subtle and rich malt flavors. Enjoy it now, or even more next year.
