When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA. The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally. Rated Sept. 2008. Pours clear gold with off white head. The aroma is an even mix of malt sweetness and grapefruit hops and then some mild bubble gum and faint banana. The taste brings up a nice level of Belgian yeast notes like mild bubble gum that mixes with tart grapefruit hops, some acidity and a background of sweet maltiness. The malt note grows some into the finish. This is a fresh tasting brew with tasty hops. I think I prefer the standard IPA version better. Although it’s fun experiencing the impact the Belgian yeast strain creates.

Pours a clear golden colour with a big off-white head that stays a while and creates foamy lacing. Citrus aromas with hints of Belgian Ale yeast, other fruitiness. Grainy malts taste start with a big bitter middle and lingering into the finish. Smooth oily mouthfeel. Lots of grassy notes, but not enough Belgian ones.

Pours a big huge foamy head that dissipates to a thin layer. Has a fairly clear golden amber appearance and has some sticky lacing all around. Excessive carbonation. Aromas are yeasty, malty and citrusy. Flavours are on the citrus side, some notes of grapefruit, hints of tropical fruits, a bit yeasty and some sweet malts. A good balance of bitterness and sweetness.

I love Belgians. I also love IPAs. This is the best of both worlds. More of a Belgian if you ask me though. Pours just like a Belgian. Thin gold with a great foamy head. Smells yeasty and hoppy. Yay! Taste is Belgian yeast and hops. Finish is clean. I would drink this everyday if I could. Too bad I can't. Bravo for having the cajoles to mix styles.

Nose is Belgium, some sour, some funk, like a mild Saison, but with hints of citrus (its all about the yeast.) Pours a foggy deep gold body with a long lasting tight white head with excellent lace. Mouth is medium bodied, nothing special. Flavor is NOT good, but its an interesting attempt. The taste is OK until the end when it goes terribly wrong; nasty medicinal off-putting flavors at the end are metallic...like a Saison gone wrong. They seem to indicate that they took the Stone IPA recipe and just changed the yeast, not a good idea. They got the head right but thats about it.

Bomber from Central City. Clear gold pour, fluffy white head. Yeasty aroma, along with citrus. Flavour likewise. Decent mouth. Peppery - VERY peppery finish.

Stone do great ipa's but this one is a bit of a miss for me. The fruity citrus flavour that stone normally produce just wasn't there. Belgium yeast overpowered the hops and some how made it taste like I would imagine lemon pledge to taste like. Looks top notch for a while but fades too quickly. Average mouthfeel. Don't worry Stone, I still love ya.

This poured a dark golden color. The aroma was a ton of citrus as expected in Stone IPAs with that extra yeasty nose going on. The flavor is primarly on line with a Stone IPA with a lot of citrus going on like lemons and oranges. There is a backbone of the belgian influence and some sourness. As a hater of most Belgian IPAs I did like this one.

Two styles certainly collide within this brew. Bitter west coast hops provide a nice floral & citrus profile, while some biscuity malt and Belgian yeast combine to add a spicy and mildly tangy malt backdrop. Huge billowing head sits atop a golden~orange body. Tart, bitter and light to medium bodied. Pleasant concoction, I would guess this bottle had a small amount of shelf time, it was in good form regardless of it's age.

Pours a straw yellow with a big white head that lasts a while. Very hop heavy aroma. Taste feels slightly watered down with a massive malt hit. Slightly dry. Goes down smooth. Not too bad but not in league with Stones other brews. Will have again.
