From the beginning of time, it was so decreed, "From this Tree of Knowledge, you shall not eat this fruit." Soon enough, the Serpent slithered through the garden convincing Eve to taste the nectar from this forbidden fruit. Once bitten and shamed, she then tempted Adam. Together, their actions brought Original Sin upon our world. Discontent to rest on his laurels, the Serpent continued his cunning ways bringing forth more temptations. Ultimately, he foisted upon the world his own Serpent Stout - a liquid so dark and viscous that all who tasted soon fell victim to his evil incarnate. Some sought false prophets. None of it mattered. Each struggle revealed the battle between Good and Evil. And now that you are holding a bottle of this liquid, it is certain he has tempted even you... 750mL bottle 11% abv

Corked bottle, at "Onsdag i Annen", Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, moderate to low tan head. Intense sweetish malty aroma, vinous and roasty notes, oak, caramel, coffee and chocolate. Rich mouthfeel. The flavour has much the same elements as the aroma. Sweeter and less intense bitterness than in some other imperial stouts. A real treat!

Rich, smoky, sweet chocolaty aroma absolutely sent me into raptures. Appearance is fantabulous, too - opaque sable one scratch above black, with a thick, fluffy, fine-bubbled tan head. Flavor - oh, what flavor! Praise Bacchus that this beer is finally available in Georgia! However I pay for my sins in my mortal life, let it be in the realm of Bacchus, pouring beer for the blessed! Flavor is like a top-of-the-line mocha, coffee and sweet chocolate with smoky tones and a hint of molasses - seriously lip-smacking and utterly divine! Texture is silky smooth yet fairly tingly, leaving a sweet and fizzy finish. This serpent is sheer perfection! Again, my thanks to Bacchus/Dionysus for bringing this beer to Atlanta!

I was looking forward to this, and was let down severely. The alcohol in this is very prevalent. One of the blackest beers I've tried. The nose was strongly alcoholic, overpowering the dark malts and coffee notes. Because of the alcohol, it's a heavy beer to drink and like the aroma, the alcohol mutes out the chocolate and bitter coffee hints.

750ml bottle. Pours black with a small light brown head that quickly diminishes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is fudgy lactic chocolate malts, black licorice and some alcohol.

The flavor is sweet fudgy chocolate malts and molasses with a charred roast, black licorice and some alcohol. The finish is a lot of charred bitterness and alcohol. The mouthfeel is lighter than expected - light to medium bodied with low carbonation and kind of watery.

Overall, starts off promising, but it's just too hot, charred and unbalanced for me to truly like. I remember this beer being a lot more decadently sweet, and liking it a lot more that way.

I must say - this raises the bar for me on stouts. Almost reminds me of an IRS. I am partial to stouts anyway, so this really impressed me. Pours a deep, dark, opaque brown-black. Aroma is powerful with dark fruit, fig and raisin. Heady with with alcohol and licorice. The head is thick and deep tan. First sip is decieveing, because there is so much to this brew, you have to take a few sips to really get into it. Everything you always wanted in a stout along with an amazing 11% abv. You really don't get that the ABV is so high, even as it warms. This drinks best at around 65 to 68 deg F. dark semi-sweet chocolate, roasted coffee, and earthy malts abound. Strong stout. There is fig and raisin along with a hint of sweet horehound. (it is an old fashioned candy - look it up) Finish is long and savory. Dry, with the warmness from the alcohol. Oak, single malt scotch, and of course, coffee hit as this brew finishes. I look forward to the next bottle - and I have another favorite.

While the game we were watching while consuming this bottle was extremely boring, this bottle was not any way. A huge beer in every way possible, and it delivered. The beer pours out an immensly dark body, black as black can get, with a tight, thick 1" creamy light brown head which lasted the entire length of my pint. Aroma consists of dark chocolate, black licorice, scorched sugar, chocolate covered raisins and alcohol. Flavor really pulls it all together with the chocolate notes, bitter coffee, alcohol, dark fruits, vanilla and black walnuts. Body is smooth, creamy and coating. It felt like my teeth were fitted with a tuxedo by the worlds greatest tailor. Just a really great, great beer. Really one of the better stouts I’ve had lately.

Big thanks to drgonzo for sharing this wonderful and complex stout. Enjoyed a nice sample while sitting around the fire pit. Lot's of complex aromas intertwined with one another mostly dark fruits, rich chocolate, molasses, and plenty of roasted goodness. The sweet fruitiness in the aroma was well received and added a nice twist. It was dark outside at this point, but so was the beer and I was able to notice a frothy head and some stringy lacing. Full bodied and extremely rich, I took time with this one and was thankful for doing so. Bitter and sweet, very heavy and filling. Flavors mimicked the aroma but a juicy port wine flavor really came through tying the burnt, roasted flavors with the sugary, fruity ones. This one is first class.

Black with a small pale brown head. Dense, roasty and fruity aroma of dark chocolate, prunes, figs, anise and and licorice. Full-bodied and chewy with notes of melting chocolate, figs, prunes, dark cherries, anise and black sweet coffee. Long chewy and anise-seeds. Dense a bit cloyingly sweet finish of dark chocolate, prunes, brown sugar

this was one crazy good beer. Aroma is subdued but complex, of roasted grtain, coffee, chocolate, toffee...the look is blackness, with some brown head on top. Quite nice. The mouthfeel is full, but feels different due to the tighter carbonation fromt the bottle conditioning. It works well in this beer, but i still found myself swirling. Flavor is amazing, everything I wanted it to be...roasted coffee again, chocolate (less chocolate and alcohol apparent than Port's, but it's actually 1% abv stronger). Super complex with an amazing dry finish...like an imperial dry irish at the end. Just great. I've heard LA has some consistency issues, but since this is the only one I've had, I can only hope it's always this good. One of the few beers really worth a double digit price tag! a little sweeter and less complex the second time around. still great, but not as great. lost a touch (had on tap for the first time) but still awesome. 8/12
