Sampled 10/23/2008. This pale ale pours a orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel malts and citrusy. A medium bodied pale ale. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are grapefruity and floral. There is some fruitiness that I wasn’t expecting. It kind of sweet and tastes like some berry of some kind, possibly huckleberry? Kind of weird, but does not detract too much from the beer overall. Lively carbonation. Decent balance. The mouthfeel is full and round. The finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle from 5000/Larry Pitonka. The pour was hazy amber, hugh honkin' classic APA white head, great retention, even at the bottom of the glass, still 1cm thick with great lacing left behind on the walls of the glass. The aroma was toffee with slight oranges and piney resinous notes. The flavor was rich malts, a bit toasty, some oranges, and spicey hops in the finish, an almost saison-like malty-pepper combination, although unfortunately, a touch of plastic/chemical aspects in the aftertaste, which fortunately was only light. Could have a been a wonderful APA if not for that off taste, full mouthfeel, plenty of lingering hop spice zing.
