Allagash Hugh Malone Ale

Taps clear golden with a fairly thick eggshell head that leaves good lacing. Aroma presents inviting citrus, malty and hoppy tones. Flavor offers resiny hops, citrus, fresh malt, pomme fruit, and subtle banana tones. Very Belgian and very IPA. Mouthfeel features decent body and fine fizz. Hugh should try it.

A cloudy yellow appearance with a frizzy? White head. Aroma contains some perfume, spices, oranges, dishwashing soap, coriander. Flavor has IPA traits with some bitter pine, orange peel, and grapefruit. Then here comes the sour, like a sour ex to punch you in the face with sourness. I like sour and bitter but they seem to comine into a transfomer called Unpleasentron. Allagash did good on the style, I just don’t care for the style.

wow-i don't get the average ratings for this one-i thought it was great. fluffy white everlasting head on a pale orange beer. it started out with a nice floral hoppy boquet with some underlying malt sweetness and a touch of yeast. the bottle conditioning give it a nice full mouthfeel too. at closer to fridge temp, the hops dominate the malt, with a dry bitter finish only hinting at the belgian undertones. as it warms, the yeasty characteristics come out as much as the hops, making it a cool beer to drink through each phase. Quite good - if it were cheaper, I'd get it all the time.

I'm pretty disappointed at the cost to satisfaction ratio. While it is certainly an OK beer, it just doesn't justify the cost. When I can get a Chimay for so much less...why bother with this?

aged by stumac for 2 years. bad idea .. . taste of cellar dust, old molasses, and dead bee that shit himself aromas .. . pours a dark orange with a decent headring .. . good stuff, but don't age this .. . butter, honey, wet cellar, and fruit flavours, a bit muddled .. . booooo!!

A medium bodied golden honey colored ale with ripe fruit and raisin flavors on the palate. Somewhat hoppy but I never did get the sense that the ale was dry hopped because I never smelled the citrus, flowery aromas apparent with a dry hopped beer.

Aroma is dusty as well as sweet with some caramelized malt and some Belgian rock candy coming through with nice accentuations of hoppiness and some fruity overtones with some slight spice. Appearance is a hazy, golden yellow in color when held to the light and reminds me of the body of saison and has a huge, ever-expanding head on top that is bleach-white in color and well-carbonated and begins to diminish leaving creamy, uneven lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and rather smooth with some great hoppy balance as well as some faint maltiness with a palate that is creamy and frothy with some faint dryness. Flavor is Belgian in origin with strong notes of dusty, dried-floral characteristic with some faint spice and house yeastiness with an aftertaste that is funky with some citrus and has a finish similar to Duvel and is actually pretty much quality. Overall, I did expect more out of this brew but, nonetheless, it is tasty and rather complex and I would have to say it is worth seeking out especially if you are just beginning to experiment with Belgian ales...Recommended.

Bottle: Poured a mahogany color ale with a huge foamy head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some dry with some dry Czech hops. Taste is also dominated by those sweet malt with limited dry fruits characteristics or oak notes. Body is quite full with some great carbonation and no alcohol was noticeable. Interesting but definitely not the best from this usually fine brewery.

Disappointing aroma. Sort of a candy corn aroma.
Amber orange hue with some off white head.
Again, hugely dissappointing. I was really looking for more hop character, taste a lot of toast and candy sugar.
Syrupy slick. evaportating alcohol
I don’t know what to say. I’m very disappointed with this beer. Oh well. Allagash has made many great beers. One miss step is okay I suppose.

Beer poured an orange color with some head and lacing. Not much aroma. The dryness of the flavor was the first thing to hit me, second was all the peppery spices. Underneath were some floral and malty notes, maybe even a touch of evergreen like hoppiness (which reading the description I think comes from the Simcoe hops). Very yeasty as well.
