On its journey across the globe the little Chouffe wandered through beautiful hopfields. The overwhelming aroma of these little hop flowers such as Tomahawk, Amarillo and Saaz mesmerized him. Back at home in the Ardennes he crafted a new recipe combining this dizzying array of hops with the depth and body of his favorite style “Tripel”. Thus, our little Chouffe’s new inspiration Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel was born. Houblon Chouffe: A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness).

Not as hoppy as the American DIPA. Has that Belgian flavor and feel. Something in the yeast....some more floral notes, etc. Not much alcohol bite. Has a semi-clear lighter orange appearance. Decent feel. I've had some better in this style from this region, but this was worth the try.

Somewhat opaque golden yellow with lacing white foam head. Aroma is bitter tripel, quite hoppy. Taste is bitter, hoppy, little floral. Long lasting aftertaste. (Velp 201311)

Pours a very large amount of foamy bubbly head and has a slightly hazy golden appearance. Has thick lacing. Orange, citrus aromas. Some toasty and bready malts as well. Flavours of citrus, earthy hops. Pretty sweet and somewhat bitter. Also some notes of floral hops and some mild spices. Fairly lively carbonation. Average retention. Mouth warming sensation. pretty slick and drying mouthfeel. Astringent sensation, mainly in the finish. Good balanced beer. Fairly strong in alcohol but doesn`t show it.

Pours a hazy orange-gold with a massive meringue cap - aromas of citrus, tropical fruit some light sweet grain notes and the signature Belgian yeast funk. Remarkably bright and spritzy for such a robust medium bodied ale. Flavour has big hops and malt balancing off in the front, mid palate there is some complexity with mangos, apricot, spice...finishes dry with a nice hop bite. Very rounded and drinkable for such a big ale - first rate!

The beer pours a hazed straw colour with a long lasting thin rocky head and ample effervescence. The aroma is yeast, citrus, spices. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is citrusy hops, grains, and a little yeast. The herbally bitter aftertaste is quite good.

Single big green bottle from the SAQ. Pours a hazy golden colour with a big white frothy head that lasts quite long and gives out dirty lace. Beautiful nose of Belgian Ale yeast and spicy hops. Good fruit presence in the taste. Citrus (grapefruits, lemons), notes of apples, with just a nice touch of alcohol. Mild grass lingers in the aftertaste and very light grain comes out. This is quite a wonderful brew, balancing the Tripel and IPA. Would buy more.

Part of the 2013 LCBO Summer Release. A huge frothy white head sits atop a cloudy golden pour of beer with lots of floaties. Looks good. Yeast, citrus, and spices dominate the aroma with the herbal hop notes more of an afterthought. The flavour is undeniably tripel-like with yeast and spices coming out on top. Great beer.

That is quite a hop nose, smells like I just got done brewing, very fresh or raw. Looks a bit unassuming, yellow, haze, fluffy white head. Great bitter flavor with just the right balance of Belgian sweetness. Love this one.

Tried this at the Bier Markt at Queensway.Pours a hazy yellow with a large white head which leaves loads of lacing. Floral and fruity aroma.Great big flavour. Sweet malts a little spiciness and a nice hoppy bitter dry finish. Well carbonated yet smooth. Would definitely have again.

Poured a large, foamy white head over aclear body of light to medium gold. Aroma was nothing to be excited over, discrete hints of cloves and spice. Mouthfeel was quite right. Flavour was scarely that of an IPA, but I guess a Belgian iteration of the style would be interesting and this was. Flavour was like the aroma, only more obvious. Sour note at the finish.
