Batch 1000 is a special limited release that commemorates the brewing of our one-thousandth batch at our brewery in Paso Robles on California's Central Coast. While similar in style and flavor to our flagship Double Barrel Ale, Batch 1000 boasts the added distinction of being unfiltered, bottle conditioned and entirely fermented in new American oak barrels. The result is a beer that stands alone in quality and character. Ten years ago, when we brewed our first batch of Double Barrel Ale, we revived the lost art of barrel fermentation. Our inspiration was the classic Burton Union brewing method that was once responsible for England's finest ales. Over time, this method was abandoned by most brewers because of the considerable expense and labor when compared to modern stainless steel brewing. Today, we remain the only American brewery to ferment beer in a union of oak barrels. Batch 1000 is ultimately a beer born of tradition and inspired by innovation. It is a unique piece of brewing art composed of the finest all-natural ingredients, one that should be consumed in its youth, at its freshest. Only 500 cases were produced.

Poured a hazy amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma was earthy, woody oak, toffee, nutty, and some vanilla as well. Taste was more enjoyable, with caramel malts, some toffee, citrus fruits, and vanilla.

Well, this was a disappointment. For Batch #1000, this wasn't much more than an amber ale. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. After alll though, it came in a specialty box. It was a better-than-average amber ale. Oh well. Not a terribly big beer

Thanks to Ed from Ledger's for this one. This was a medium-bodied pale ale with a caramel nose and a dark copper/bronze pour with a small head. Vanilla, butterscotch (diacytal?), tannins and oak are present due to the aging in oak barrels. Hopes in the flavor were citrusy. Very dry in the finish with some astringency. A very good sipping ale.

This English Pale Ale pours a amber brown color from a 22 oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel malts, fruity with a hint of oak and wood. A medium bodied Pale Ale. Malts are caramel and biscuty. Hops are slightly spicy and citrusy kind of mild. Hints of oak flavors. The oak mellows the sweetness of the malts, but is very understated and subtle. Nice balance. Very nice sipping beer. I do have a question. The only way I could tell that beer was the Batch 1000 aged in oak was the box it came in. The label on the 220z bottle looked like the normal Double Barrel. I don’t recall seeing the beer in a 22 bottle but I could be wrong. Anybody? Nice beer and an interesting example of oak aging. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
