"Smooth beer for the rough seas" "Blackbeard's journal states that confusion and plotting developed if his men were sober. But, all was calm when they had enough ale. Blackbeard (?-1718), the most fierce and notorious of Caribbean pirates, he was particularly fond of the waters off the Virgin Islands".

Pours a perfect clear copper with off white head. The aroma is light with mild fig and date notes along with a hint of caramel and booze. The taste is sweet with some dark fruity esters like prunes and raisins along with a hint or two of caramel malts. Seems a bit thin and un-substantial even for an Amber.

pours a nice dark amber (unusual for Caribbean) with nice off white head. A nice aroma of bread and caramel arose from the glass. The flavor was malty, sweet, caramel, and is bready with an aftertaste that is malty with a finish that is refreshing and fairly smooth. If i could have only 1 beach beer this would be it.

Pours a clear, dark amber with an off-white head. Sweetish aroma of caramel and overripe fruit. Medium body, lightly sweet caramel and overripe fruit. Discreet bitterness.

Occasionally it is the labeling that attracts when in the continual search for something new. It was true of this ale. Not bad for a Caribbean islands group better known for rum. Brown body, decent head and nice balance of hops and malt.

Recently visited St. Thomas and got the chance to sample this beer. Hard to give it a true rating... I mean I could have been drinking Bud and would have loved it. Matter of fact I did have a bud that day :-) Something about being on some island, in the sun and away from work that makes all things better. Blackbeard Ale - Amber/copper colored, quite smooth with a definite maltiness to it. Slight hopiness with caramel mixed in there. Good overall beer that could possibly use a little extra kick to it. Easy to drink.

A good friend of mine was thinking about me on her recent vacation and brought me back a beer from the U.S. Virgin Islands that I had not even previously heard of so I look forward to this one for sure. The aroma is very bready and typical to the style with some nice quantities of caramel coming through. The appearance is a deep and rich mahogany-amber in color when held to the light with a small head on top that diminishes to a light and off-white lacing that adheres to the glass. The mouthfeel is light-bodied and crisp with some decent malty complexity as well as bready balance with a palate that is thin and a bit watery. The flavor is malty, sweet, of caramel, and is bready with an aftertaste that is malty with a finish that is decent and pretty smooth. Overall, thank you once again Heather for this sample and it is a nice example of an amber ale and easy to drink; I guess it has to be being the fact it is brewed in the Carribbean where the temperature is always sultry, humid, and very hot.

Had this just once, from the bottle at the brewery outlet bar/store on Charlotte Amalie. Much better than the same brewery's piss-like Roxy's. Price was not attractive, though.
