Town Hall Masala Mama IPA

Growler time (god help me). Pours a very nice golden amber with a massive 4 finger sudsy head that seemingly takes forever to go away. Tons of lacing. Aroma is very hoppy with a slightly spiced backing. Nicely carbonated. Taste is very hop dry with a creamy feeling. Slightly fruity ending. The taste is actually very mild in the taste but that may be because it is over a month old. Easy drinking brew.

A solid IPA from a great brewpub that never fails to disappoint beer-wise. Citrus and piney hops are on showcase here. Bitter but not palate-wrecking. Excellent! On cask, the citrusy hops come through more in the aroma with notes of peaches and grapefruit showing up in the taste as well. The mango version is interesting but not quite as good as the regular version--the mango (unsurprisingly) overwhelms the other flavors making it a little one-dimensional.

July 2010 - Two pints on cask at the brewpub. Amber brown with a frothy head and nice lacing all over the glass. Complex bouquet of floral aroma and earthiness. Amazing mouthfeel on the cask version. I sampled the tap version, which was also good. These pints went down fast and easy. A hugely rich flavor with a good bit of maltiness but with a large balancing hop presence...largely floral hops with a touch of fruit and some earthiness. Extremely bitter but the most unharsh bitterness you can imagine. The regular version had stronger flavors, but less silky in the mouthfeel...definitely excellent, but I slightly prefer the cask version.

Had this from a growler courtesy of BrewerDan. In fairness, this growler had been opened the previous day. Pours deep reddish orange, little head but respectable lacing. Nose - some pine and a strong citrus aroma, especially orange zest and some grapefruit. There is a good dose of bready, sweet malt evident, but nicely so. This is a well-balanced IPA, but maybe tilted toward the malts. Citrusy hops at the outset and in mildly dry finish. Carbonation seemed to fit, although lighter than expected. Mouthfeel was medium and creamy. The malt forward, almost no head, little observed carbonation, etc. were probably due to some lack of freshness but this was still an outstanding beer. I just hope I get to try it fresher next time (please?).

I love every moment of this! ..reminded me of RR blind pig but with a slightly bigger nose..

Growler: Poured a deep orangey color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention and great lacing. Aroma of citrus hops with a nice mix of caramel malt and a nice bitter aftertaste. Taste is also a very well balance mix between some some c-hops citrus notes with some floral undertones and deep caramel malt. Full body with great carbonation. Very well done but I still thinks its lacks the grapefruit punch that I really look for in this style.

From a growler. Pours a dark amber with a dense one finger head that fades very slowly to a thick cap. The lace that's left behind nearly covers the entire inside of my glass. Smell; lots of pine tree going on in here with some grapefruit, oranges and lemons all thrown as well. There's a nice bready, almost caramel malt presence in the background. As this warms the citrus aromas become much more pronounced. Taste; The pine needle hops are very present in the flavor, as they are in the aroma, but the citrus is a bit more dominant. Grapefruit and orange peels, as well as a bit of lemons that ive this what I can only call a juicy quality. There's a bit of a sweet caramel as well as a toasted bread presence that kind of float around in the background, offsetting the hops just a touch, and adding a nice depth to this beer. Mouthfeel/Drinkability; the mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, and seems the fit the hop profile of tis beer just about perfectly, and the drinkability is just incredible. I could easily drink this all night long, and I think I just might do that tonight. This beer makes me wish I lived closer to Minneapolis

Thanks to footbalm for this beauty. It is an extremely well-balanced IPA. Lots of hops in the nose, hoppiness in the flavor, but all supported by a nice balance of malt.

My sister was in Minneapolis for a college activities planning convention and was nice enough to walk down to the brewpub, buy a growler of this, lug it back to her hotel (almost 2 miles one way), and bring home in her backpack. I’m glad she did, it’s a tasty beer that has more malt complexity than you’d expect from an IPA. The brown body is topped off by a medium-sized head. The aroma smacks first of hops, pine tip variety, but is followed up by a solid, sweet caramel and biscuit malt. The flavor is full, the malt thick in the mouth with the tingling carbonation and prickly bitterness lightening the load. Excellent.

This is delightfully hoppy! I have had many many IPA experiences, but the Hall's is one of my favorites. It is (like many of the better IPA brews in America) a bit like Sierra Nevada. But it is also very comparable to what you would find in a good English pub. Town Hall does make theirs with the intention of it being served at a colder temperature than you would generally find in England, but it works well. Besides, if you like it a little warmer, it tastes very good after sitting for a bit. This is one of my most beloeved beers anywhere.
