It's nice to be able to finally brew some beer without restrictions on it. we came from Colorado where we could brew or try anything. We've been waiting 7 years to make a stout and we harnessed all that frustration into this batch of beer. We didn't get caught up in the parameters of a specific style we just brewed a big fat hoppy beautiful beer. The timing of the law change couldn't have been better for us, because it has taken until this summer for us to get set up in our new brewery. We finally have some capacity to experiment with some new style. This could lead into a seasonal offering from us in the future. For now we're just glad we can satisfy the demands of the folks who have been on us since day 1 to make a stout. Malt: 70/80 crystal malt, chocolate malt, black malt, roasted malt Hops: Centennial, Willamette and cascade - on the dry hop!

A deep ebony colored beer with a big frothy textured tan head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. It settles into a well formed and persistent lacing. Light hoppiness. Light bodied. Chocolate dominates the tasting.

Pours out 100% black with a good thick tan head. The aroma is not very strong but there are notes of hops, coffee and a little chocolate. The mouthfeel is okay but not thick. The taste is a little hoppy but not very rich and full.

This could be the hoppiest IPS that I have sampled. First tried this at a beerfest last month, then sampled it on cask with 3 lbs of hops added. That was almost too hoppy. This is actually balanced pretty well. Dark black appearance with a mocha head. Flavor and overall almost a 9, if it was just a little heavier in body and taste. 9% IPS makes for easier drinking though. Has potential. 2nd sample was a single bottle, but I would have no problem getting a 6 of this.

2011 edition: Dark brown, nearly black pour, very tight tan head, tons of lacing. Deep roasted malty aroma upfront, molasses, very slight brine, dark chocolates, earthy hops bitter linger, very slight licorice - all in the nose and the palette. Deep rich stout that still hasn't mellowed fully but still damn tasty.

A good imp, typical in style, flavor, aroma and appearance but a very solid brew. Sweetwater puts out a good quality product, maybe not mindblowing but certainly well done.

Thnaks, Lou - I had no idea what I was about to pour... didn't read the label, just dove right in. Thankfully this was dessert after a light meal. A very nice imperial stout. Pout pitch black with a thin dark tan - nearly brown - head. Roasted malt, choclate, toffee aroma and flavor. Not the slightest hint in the nose or on the pallette of the alcohol content. Nice - and I'm not typically a big SweetWater fan.

The Sweetwater guys must be perverts with all their weird beer names, must be Saved by the Bell fans, hey Screech .. . Pours a dark brown, whiffs of tar, chocolate, and light roasted malts.. . somewhat one dimensional but a likeable stout, and not overly done for a first time by SW .. . I think you would have made a great Muppet...

big hoppy aroma. nice, but overpowers the "stout" part. black beer. prickly feel, but full and rich too. flavor and aroma make the beer seem a little old, but it says best by december 2010, and here it is in may? a little more chocolate and roasted malt come through, and the alcohol is hidden in the flavor (although it warms). the bitterness of the beer preveted me from enjoying it as much as i thought i would. i was hoping for a yeti or storm king wannabe and it's pretty good, but nowhere near those 2. 5/11 slightly fresher taste and aroma bump the score by a tenth.

Great aroma of floral hops and guava, with a nice two-finger head and good lacing. Full-bodied mouthfeel with a sharp flavor of floral hops and fruity guava aftertaste.

This beer poured like an imperial stout, looks like an imperial stout and even smells like one. But from there it is a very different and very Sweetwater. It has the caracteritic Sweetwater hoppy flavor but this beer is thick, not bad but it has a strange after taste that is hoppy yet strange skunky aftertaste.
