"I sampled the early '08 release, Aroma of alcohol, sweet dark fruits like plum, and raisins, lots of citrus from the hops, and some malty notes. Appearance was a murky copper with orange hues, the head was thin and slightly yellow. Mouthfeel was spicey, syrupy and a little sticky. Flavor started with a bready malt flavor that was quickly followed by a citrus hop blast with alcohol showing up in the finish. Overall it was a pretty good BW, a bit overwhelming at first, but with a little age i think it would be better."

"is it possible for a beer to punch you in the face (twice-first a malt jolt, then tremendous hops), and yet still leave you wanting to drink another right away. that was my first experience with this massive-in-every-way beer, and I haven't changed my mind. BEST BARLEYWINE EVER!!! the only thing preventing this from being a 5 is that it was better fresh...it didn't age as well as a Barleywine should."

"2008 limited release, 11.26 abv. I have been wanting to try this for a while and was fortunate to find it at Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. Pours an amber/orange color with a thin head but it sticks around. Aroma is a lot of sweet malt, vanilla, fruity, particularly grapefruit, and a touch of alcohol. This is a wonderful tasting barleywine with many layers adding to it's complexity. The flavors are sweet malts, sherry, tart cherries, oak, a dark fruit note and finishes off with grapefruit hops. Not a lot of bitterness but some mild alcohol burn and although you know the alcohol is in it the 11.26% hides quite well. A nice representation of the style and a beer that makes for a great evening. "

"This brew poured a dark orange color with a tan head that lasted a few minutes. The aroma is sweet like dark fruit and nuts, it realy is a wonderful aroma. The mouthfeel in just below what i would call thick. There is a heavier consisntency though. The flavor is sweet as well but has a bitter aftertaste. It taste like a traditional barleywine with and alchohol subnote. Some againg would do this brew wonders. Overall I like this beer alot, it is good fresh, but would much better aged."

"2008 Limited Early Release - 11.26% ABV. Worth every penny! Pours an orangish-amber with a nice, but somewhat fleeting creamy head. Aroma gives away the strength, but is well balanced. Good hop note with some citrus over tones. This one will sneak up on you so be prepared."
