"Pours a dark brown with a tan head with some nice lacing. Semi-Sweet Chocolate with a touch of coffee permeates my nostrils. Smells like I just opened a new box of chocolates. Chocolate dominates the taste with a hint of coffee and some roasted malt. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thick side and it has a nice bitter finish. It's almost as if it's a strong Belgian chocolate milkshake/beer hybrid. Alcohol is well hidden. The guy at the liquor store told me I should have this with some good vanilla ice cream, I wish I would have made plans for that. This is an extreme beer, probably should be consumed as a dessert beer with ice cream or strawberries, even though I enjoyed it for what it was. Not sure I can drink more than one at a sitting. A bit pricey, but a treat. Surprisingly good. If you like stout, you owe it to yourself to give this one a try. Southern Tier does it again. "

"Beer pours dark as night with some moderate head and lacing. Let’s get down to it...this is liquified milk chocolate. No lactic notes of some other "milk" like chocolate beers, no bitter baking chocolate. This is like taking a handful of Hershey Kisses, melting them down, chilling them and adding a roasted malt stout underneath (with some noticeable hops, but not much). They totally accomplished what they were out to do. Not overly sweet, but still difficult to drink...not that that isn’t understandable. How many liquified Hershey Kisses could you think you could drink without it being a little too much? The temptation struck more than once to drink this bomber by myself...I’m glad I waited until I had my father to share with."

"Wow. It pours pitch black, dark and very opaque. Only tiny little bubbles are visible near the sides of the glass. A tan foamy head is formed by these tiny bubbles. The head slowly recedes as I drink, leaving nice lace patterns on the glass. The aroma catches the nose as it is poured. It is strong and full of dark and milk chocolate. The flavor is a bitter sweet chocolate with complementary chocolate and caramel malts. The hops add there own bitter complexity and play off the dark chocolate wonderfully. The palate is medium to full bodied, slick on the tongue and a little bit oily. This is an outstanding and decadent imperial stout that has a well hidden 11% abv that can sneak up on you.

"A healthy pour produces an almost three-finger thick, lightly browned, tan colored head. The beer is a deep black color, though if held up directly to the light it shows hints of concentrated ruby hues around the edges. This has a huge chocolate aroma, sweet, like a dense, dark chocolate mousse. Really this just has an intense, rich, full chocolate aroma to it. Perhaps a touch of toasted grain and burnt malt is noticeable underneath all this chocolate, but it is really hard to tell. If you really like chocolate you will like this aroma; rich, full and complex in its chocolate notes, but there is little else noticeable.
Thick and rich as it first hits my tongue, it becomes more viscous as it slides down my throat. Up front is lots of sweet, dark grain notes that quickly get engulfed by rich, dark-milk-chocolate like flavors. The beer picks up some substantial bitterness both likely from the chocolate and the roasted malt, but there is also some lingering hop bitterness in the finish that is not quite as potent, but does a better job of lingering on in the palate after the beer has slid down my throat. The bitterness is definitely quite needed for balance to the sweet malt and chocolate, but still plays only a secondary role. The carbonation, though light, adds a bit of acidity to this brew that accentuates some acrid, burnt grain notes. As it loses the carbonation it loses this acidic, acridness. It even seems to lose a touch of the sharp, biting bitterness, that while not overwhelming at first was almost a bit harsh at times despite the huge, sweet, chocolate character.
This really has an over-the-top chocolate character to it (both aroma and flavor), so if you enjoy nibbling on dark, fairly sweet chocolate then this should be right up your alley. This is definitely dessert in a glass, as it warms up it loses a bit of sweetness, but it becomes a bit more thick and rich to make up for this. I waffle back and forth between thinking the aggressive, almost harsh bitterness is too much with thinking that it is absolutely needed to help balance the thick, viscous, over-the-top chocolate character. I suppose it does distract me from a chocolate character that might be too much other wise, so in that sense it is good. At times I feel like I should be able to actually bite into and chew this beer, it is that rich and chocolaty. In the end this is a tasty brew, one which I would be happy to have more of."

"Bottle courtesy of Grub: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium dirty brown foamy head with good retention and some nice lacing notes. Aroma of pure black chocolate is dominating but is so enjoyable at the same time. Taste is a mix between some black chocolate from Belgium or Switzerland with some sweetness reminiscent of lactose. Full creamy body with a somewhat oily texture, almost like liquid chocolate, with some great carbonation and no apparent alcohol which is surprising considering the ABV of 11%. This beer is one of my new guilty pleasures."
