Traditional, French-style, Spring beer. Fruity and smooth.

"04.16.05 Brewtopia ’05, draught. Orange-gold, soapy head. Light and fruity, grainy, granola. It’s a sweet, gentle, and lightly dry brew. Mild acidity, tart only like a very ripe grape. Some melon and raisin. Full bodied. Might have been better than could be appreciated at a beer fest."

"Pours an almost glowing amber/orange brew with a thick whipped cream head. Some spiciness and alcohol in the nose. Medium bodied. Spicy and yeasty in the front, a little maltiness near the middle then finishes crisply. Thanks to jcalabre for the sample!"

"well this is a tasty one from eastern Long Island with a live flavor. Orange with abundant sediment and a light head leaves some lacing. Smooth mouthfeel and a med. body with light bubbles that are 'champagnesque' along with fruity white grape flavor . Very aromatic with scents of barnyard, sweet grain, and musty lemon.................................... Flavor is sweet and sour, light fruity, green banana, with fermented yeast. Complex, Tangy and Bright. A very deep and rich lemon flavor abound with a touch of spice on the nose. Interesting beer awakens my taste buds"

"Ah, does it get much better than this?
Granted, I have to admit that I was initally attracted to this beer due to the fact that I'm a big SciFi dork. "Beer from Mars? Right on!" ;^)
But seriously, while I of course knew that this beer style had nothing to do with the red planet, I also knew that I didn't know too much about this beer style (esp. since I had only seen/tasted a rather dull Bier De Mars from the way-over-rated New Belgium Brewing Company). So, while I knew that this beer would be tasty (coming from Southampton and all), I wasn't too sure what to expect, style-wise.
Strikes me as something of a Belgian/French Ale version of a German Maibock -- another Spring beer, if I'm not mistaken. That is to say, this is akin to more standard Biere De Garde's, with perhaps a bit of a fruity/alcoholic bite to the finish.
*But*.... this beer is only 6.2%ABV, so I guess that shoots down that theory, eh? Regardless, this is a great beer.
Amber/orange in apearence, without much in the way of foam/head. Appealing aroma, that easily cut through my blocked-up cold-deadened senses... :)
Slightly spicy, slighty fruity, with an interestingly complex malt body. Enough bitterness to get the job done, but without getting in the way, too. And finsihes off with that indistinct "French Farmhouse" vibe that I enjoy quite a bit, but ussualy have a hard time describing correctly.
Either way, this was a great mid-week treat, that I can only hope that I am able to sample again sometime in the future!
Huge cheers to Dave and Carmen for the sample! :)

"feint alcohol aroma, spicy flavor. very easy to drink. This would be a good beer to have w/ a nice formal dinner, the mild spice & tang in the flavor would do well to complement food"
