The 2nd varietal in the 2006 IPA project. Newport is a high bittering Alpha hop similar in character to Galena, Nugget and Fuggle hops, often used in stouts and barleywines. It is one of the newest US varietals, introduced in 2002.

"I had Sly Fox Newport IPA on tap at the Grey Lodge in Philadelphia. It poured more of a red colored body than I expected as most of the project IPA are orange. It had a piny aroma with some hops. The taste was very hoppy, with a slight malt finish. Overall good. "

"Poured a copper color with a small, off white head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aromaof pine, citrus fruits, light caramel, and floral hops. Taste of grassy hops, pine, caramel malts, light grapefruit, and medium bitterness."
