Sinebrychoff’s Porter is the only Finnish porter and Sinebrychoff’s oldest special beer. Produced continuously since 1957, the recipe has remained virtually unchanged from one decade to the next. Sinebrychoff’s Brewmasters Nils Sandman and Boris Orlo as well as Laboratory Manager Aarne Rahiala are credited with the development of Sinebrychoff’s Porter. Legend has it that the yeast required for the manufacturing of porter was smuggled in a test tube from the British Isles to the Hietalahti brewery. The yeast was preserved in the brewery’s own laboratory and transferred only several decades later for processing at The Technical Research Centre of Finland’s yeast bank in Espoo.
Sinebrychoff’s Porter is a dark top fermented beer made with strongly flavoured roasted malts and plenty of hops. The top fermentation process adds fruity aromas. Sinebrychoff’s Porter has a malty, roasted flavour with traces of chocolate, coffee and liquorice aromas. Sinebrychoff’s Porter is not filtered; the yeast is removed by separation.

"This beer was STELLAR! It was MALT, MALT, and a tad more MALT! This beer had hints of chocolate and toffee scattered throughout with a strong coffee aftertaste. The head was 3 fingers thick, the mouthfeel thick, and the color JET BLACK (this might be the darkest beer I have ever seen). This was an awesome brew. I recommend trying it if you can find it - a true to style baltic porter indeed."

"This beer poured with a nearly opaque black body topped off by a medium sized creamy light brown colored head that left nice lace down the sides of the glass. The aroma is huge burnt malts, smoke, hops, old coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, creamy and smooth. The flavor shared most of the flavors of the aroma with the hops showing a little less and a light licorice flavor coming through as well."

"Doesn't match the best of the Polish Baltics, IMHO. And given the cost per pint difference, I'll spring for an Okocim before getting another of these. Aroma is less complex, with some chocolate notes with the roasted malt. Somewhat less carbonation tingle in the mouthfeel, which isn't a bad thing. Alcohol seems more up front in the flavor, despite the slightly lower ABV. Flavor just lacks the complexities I found so interesting in the Okocim, and even Utenos. I'll try some again, maybe a bit less chilled next time, and that may open up the nose and palate a bit more. "

"Pours a jet black that allows no light to seep through, with a thick two finger tan head that leaves behind a thick webbing of lace.
Smell; rich chocolate and coffee notes, with some roasted, almost smokey malts. There's some dark fruits along with some hints of licorice.
Taste; the coffee and dark fruits really come out on the first few sips, along with a bit of licorice. There's a strong roasted maltiness, with some touches of wood and a little alcohol. The chocolate character starts to come through as this gets warmer. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, and so drinkable I wish I had several more."

"This porter kick I'm on continues to get more interesting, especially with these Baltic types availible here now. Chocolately roast, slight toffee, crisp maltiness and a small tick of alochol in the nose. Poured a very deep brown with fluffy brown head and great lacing. Smooth and lightly creamy in the mouth with just enough carbonation to keep it lively. Rich and malty flavor without sweetness, and low bitterness, as expected.
Another great find to keep you warm this winter. Quite excellent."
