"This brew poured a dark golden-brown with a nice off-white head but left minimal lacing. The aroma is sweet maltand bread. Some hop spice is there as well. The mouthfeel is thin. The flavor is malt and sweet with hints of bread. Overall a very good marzen."

"A Shiner beer...., that I actually purchased on by my own free will -- not like Shiner Bock, which is seemingly the only beer worth choking down whilst flying though Houston, that is. I was kinda hoping that this would give me a glimpse into what Shiner was doing back in the day (i.e. 1909). But I see it was rleased in 2005 -- is this an old bottle? Or is this fresh, but with last year's dates retained to keep the "96" motif intact?
Either way, this wasn't bad -- and that's coming from someone who normally doesn't dig malty-sweet Lagers all that much. But with this beer (the first of the evening, after a *long* day working at a certian now-infamous gov't spy agency complex in Laurel, MD), this more-or-less hit the spot.
Nice interplay of the hops and malt, surprisngly enough. Slightly bitter at first, with the sweet malt taking charge in the middle, then cleans up in the finish -- making for a nicely quaffable beer, indeed.
If this is the sort of beer was making all the way back in 1909, then what the heck happened over the past 96 (um, 97 now) years...? And I wonder what the stoic folks pictured on the neck label ("The Original Shiner Brewing Association") would think of the mass-produced snooze-fest that Shiner Bock has become...?
Either way, this was better than I expected. A nice after-work drop, for sure.

"I think this is one of Shiner's best beers, I had to go all out and buy 3 of the wooden cases(which are beautiful when stained). Its very clean, and great on a warm day, such is everyday recently in Texas."

"Ok, took a while to get here in houston but its here so shudup..i like this shiner beer, one of the better shiners , has a muddled sweet bitter taste thats needs more sweetness than odd bitterness, good but a tad expensive for the sub par brew you get, don't get me wrong ...very good for a first try by shiner by compared to real german oktobers , sub par....recommended if in texas on a hot day though!"
