Originally produced in 1990 as a Battle Of Britain commemorative brew, Spitfire is now a permanent feature on the Shepherd Neame cask conditioned ale portfolio. Spitfire Premium Bitter has a full malt and hop flavor with a well balanced and lasting aftertaste.

"I've had a couple of bottles of this sticking around for a while so I decided to try them. A clear golden red in colour with a tan head. Caramel maltiness dominates the aroma with some citrusy tones. The flavour has similar qualities, with a nice bitter end."

"500ml bottle
4.5% ABV
I tried this beer on October 27, 2008 after purchsing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent light red colour with a long lasting thin tan coloured head. The aroma was freshly baked bread, some malt, and a small amount of hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was malty, with a little hint of both sourness and bitterness detected on the tongue.....but no discernable flavours to account for either.

"Poured out a nice sized off white cap with some sticky lacing and meager retention. Brew itself is a very clear mid amber colour that leans closer to orange. The aroma is very fresh and attentive with good amounts of citrus and mango (thx oh6gdx) that are quickly paved over with soft but ample caramel malts and a bit of biscuit. The taste is sweet and pleasant with biscuit and weak caramel, some darker citrus fruits and leafy hops. Fairly smooth with enough carbonation and finishes with a mild bitterness at first taste but as you go that grows into a long lasting aftertaste. I was drinking this fairly quick and after awhile the bitterness was permanent. Incredibly drinkable. Reviewed after laughing my balls of during the "Good Grief" episode of Arrested Development... a timeless classic."

"This is a great English ale and should be rated higher. It's also from the last of the Kentish big brewers. I've had this in both England and America. Brilliant."

"A dark copper body has a good looking frothy white cap. The retention is fair and it laces the glass well enough. I found the aroma slightly skunky - a fault of the clear glass, for which I will pardon - but otherwise was quite malty, with slight citrus, caramel, and spice from the hops. Taste started with suggestions of sweetness in the malt body, perhaps caramel, but mostly consisted of typical ESB hop goodness with the aromatic spices lingering in the taste. The finish is long with hop bitterness and definitely sticks to the tongue. The mouth suggests a light to medium body. I find this brewery to make slightly above average ales, and this does little to affect my stereotype, but a good ale for an afternoon none-the-less."
