This is the beer that Shepherd Neame is best known for in the brewery's Kentish heartland - a distinctive, mid-brown bitter ale, with all the hoppy aroma you'd expect of a beer brewed in the heart of the hop country. Well balanced, with a taste that's been described as "wonderfully aggressive, tinged with sweetness".
Master Brew is brewed using only the finest Kentish barley and hops, and is the best-selling cask ale brewed in Kent. Its ABV is 3.7% on cask, 4.0% in a bottle.
Tasting notes (by Peter Ogie, Famous Beer Writer): A clean, dry, refreshing, session bitter, having a touch of sweetness, but displaying an assertive and vibrant hop with a lingering bitter finish.

"A: White frothy head, which leaves nice lace. Amber colour, clear.
S: Toast & marmalade, herbaceous notes
F: Light toasty malt profile, touch of green hop, some medium bitterness.
M: Medium to light body. Fairly short
O: A good after-work pint. Nothing too spectacular, but pleasant nonetheless.

"Great color, nice rich foam, stays long. A little bit too gasy, but actually nice taste. Aftertaste is bitter at first, but then goes down to nice malty taste. "

"Bottled. Copper colour, huge beige foamy head. Lacing. Strong maltish hoppy aroma with some fruitish hints. Strong maltish flavour which softens up into a soft fruitish one. Get dry, hayish and bitter in finish."

"Amber in color with a slight head - nice to look at. Very skunked in the aroma which probably contributed to an overall poor review. Some hop did cut through the skunk, but not enough to make a real difference. Body was on the light side - watery mouthfeel. Tasted like the beer was served in a recently washed glass - a soapy flavor I've noticed in other Shepherd Neame products in the past - perhaps it's on purpose. Finish wasn't too bad - decent hop bite that was enough to make me keep sipping. Would like to try at the hand pump as I'm sure this bottle didn't do the beer justice."

"(500 ml bottle). Exquisite aroma, beautiful colour, very bitter aftertaste (perhaps too bitter?) Rerate: I regret part of my first comment: The flavour is NOT too hoppy - it’s just an acquired taste. And the aroma IS exquisite!"
