"2008: Pours dark with a thin tan head. Aromas of dark coffee and chocolate as expected, but also a back hint of scotch and vanilla. Overall a bit sweet and syrupy, but perfect for a cold night. Warm finish. NICE."

"From the bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown/black with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet with coffe, chocolate, and slight alcohol undertones. Flavor is lighter than expected but standard chocolate and coffee flavors. Warm alcohol finish that lasts. A pretty good beer overall. This is the '06 version. Would like to try the '07 and see how it is fresh."

"This was a nice one. A black appearance with a moderate tan head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee and burbon. This was a rather thick stout with some coffee, chocolate, molasses, and burbon flavors. A thick syrupy mouthfeel. A good one!"

"Sampled from bottle. If you're reading these reviews of Schlafly's Reserve Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, and are NOT currently sampling some of this awesome beer, you're jealousy should be raging right now. This is the beer that I wish I could brew. Incredibly complex malt profile and bourbon barrel aging lends to a unique aroma and wonderful flavor. I'll buy all I can afford the next time I see it."

"Though inauspicious by appearance, this reserve brew shines. The aroma is comprised of a dark chocolate, coffee, & wood base with spiced cherry topnotes. There is ripe fruit, sweet malt, & a strong roasted character in the flavor alongside a woody-bourbon taste and serious alcohol kick. Well carbonated yet smooth, full bodied, and very warming. "
