Our 2007 Hop in the City Festival Beer. Schlafly Biere de Garde is a bottle-conditioned, French farmhouse-style ale. The name refers to the beer's ability to improve with age and if you choose to age this 7% alcohol-by-volume ale, the tart fruitiness from the yeast and the sweet maltiness from the grains will meld together nicely for several years at cellar temperatures (51-55 degrees F).
Brewed as a modern re-creation of a classic European beer style to celebrate Saint Louis's French heritage, Schlafly Biere de Garde pairs well with fruits, cheeses, and cured meats.

"Pours a dark, murky copper color with creamy, lasting head. The aroma is fresh and incredibly rich with yeast & toffee/caramel malt notes. The flavor is a delicate balance of malt and hops with light spice accent, enjoyable and drinkable. Mouthfeel, almost impossibly, combines creaminess and effervescent carbonation; an impressive medium body. Loved it--go Schlafly!"

[2] Review by Brett from Far from good beer, OK, USA who has tried this beer once. (11/30/2007 8:39:59 PM)
"Sampled from magnum bottle. Pours hazy (if you don't decant off the yeast) copper with a creamy white head. Its aroma is delightful & rich with cherries, maple, caramel. The flavor is slightly sweet and the malt flavor is so bold I'm surprised it isn't cloying. Awesome. Try it if you can find it!"
