The gentle rain and fertile soil of Ireland helped inspire this style of ale, known for being remarkably balanced. Pale and Caramel malts give the beer its rich, deep red color and distinctive caramel flavor. The sweetness of the malt is pleasantly balanced by a pronounced hop bitterness and an earthy note from the East Kent Goldings hops. Samuel Adams® Irish Red finishes smooth and leaves you wanting to take another sip.
Samuel Adams® Irish Red is our third beer to be deemed "A Beer of the People." It earned this title by winning our 2007 Beer Lover’s Choice® campaign. This was the third time we asked American beer lovers to choose our next brew. Elected by more than 42,000 people across the United States, Samuel Adams® Irish Red is our twist on a classic Irish brew. Originally brewed in Kilkenny, Ireland in 1710, Irish Red Ales are rich in flavor, yet smooth and balanced, making them ideal for warm, sunny days, yet pleasantly cozy during the chilly ones.
Samuel Adams® Irish Red is brewed with two-row Harrington, Metcalfe and Caramel 60 malted barley. The Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley provide most of the body and sweet backbone of the beer, while the Caramel 60 contributes to the deep red color that defines the style. To balance all of that sweetness, we use earthy East Kent Goldings and Spalt-Spalter hops. Their subtle bitterness and aroma provide a delicate complexity to the brew.

"This poured a nice foam head, with great color.I did not like the taste myself, thought it was kind of thin beer. Would not try it again myself. And cant understand the hype on this one. "

"This poured a dark copper color with a beige head. The aroma contains some caramel, toffee, and floral notes. The flavor is rather malty with some caramel, bready notes, toffee, and some citrus showing. The finish is somewhat sweet with just a tiny bit of bitterness to it. Overall a nice beer. "

"Pour was deep copper, very nice initial head and lacing. Aroma was strong caramel and light toffee. Flavor followed the aroma with strong sweet caramel present, although there were faint notes of diacetyl (not in a bad way for some reason) and an herbal/grassy hop touch to the finish. A decent little brew, although certainly not impressive or wow-ing by any stretch."

"Beautiful red color and nice lacing. A very hearty brew but not overpowering. A nice earthy taste from the roasted malt and balanced nicely with hops. A very good brew that I highly recommend."

"great sweet malty backbone...not as dry as the style calls for, but i liked it way more than i thought i would. flavor and aroma way better than expected, it just doesn't fit the style too well."
