Samuel Adams® partnered with Scharffen Berger Chocolate to develop their newest innovation, Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock. Tettnang Tettnanger and Spalt hops were hand-selected from the world's oldest growing area and combined with a complex selection of malts including two row Pale, Munich and caramel to create a rich and satisfying brew. This dark beer has a big, malty character that is combined with the subtle sweetness of chocolate. The chocolatiers at Scharffen Berger crafted an exclusive blend of chocolate for Samuel Adams® made with cocoa beans from Ghana called forastero. Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock was aged on a bed of this chocolate to create its unique layers of flavor. As the beer matured, the fruity, tart, earthy and chocolate aromas were infused into the liquid to give the brew a complex, full-bodied taste with a velvety finish. A hint of vanilla was added to meld the symphony of flavors together.
Due to legal restrictions, Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock can not be sold in the states of Alabama, Louisiana, and Utah.

"Oh the hype on this one. And to believe I had the self control to wait intil Christmas dinner to serve this one. Let’s start with the presentation. Quite an impressive bottle. Now to the beer. A dark ebony brown colored ale. The head is robust, tan and frothy. Settles slowly into a soapy ring. The aroma is mocha all the way. The flavor is chocolate, a tang bitter, but not overwhelming. The body was, though a bit disappointing. Somewhat weak and watery. Right choice for Christmas desserts. "

"My wife and decided to buy a couple of bottles that were for sale at John's Grocery in Iowa City. $15 a bottle seemed I but after tasting this beer I was glad we splurged. Wonderful aroma of chocolate, coffee, and sweet malts. Just a wonderful beer!"

"To celebrate the holidays, a couple coworkers and I decided to hit up the Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD tonight after work. Normally I pick my drinks from the bottle menu since the draught selections are usually on the lame side. Not tonight as I was told they had Sam Adams Chocolate Bock on draught. I told the waitress to "fill me up!"
The beer comes out and has a dark, viscous look to it. The color was dark brown, almost black and there was a wonderful tan head perched on top of the beer. The aroma was absolutely amazing. Shut your eyes and take a whiff and your mind instantly thinks there's a glass of chocolate milk in front of you. We aren't talking an overpowering chocolate smell, but rather a very mild, sweet chocolate malt smell that is absolutely great.
I let the beer sit for a few minutes to let the flavors really come out, as the beer was served colder than I normally would like it. One sip and I was left wondering, "is this really a bock?" Sure tasted like a full blown chocolate stout to me. Velvety smooth and a pleasure to taste, the chocolate malts mixed with a slight hint of caramel tones were a wonderful treat for my taste buds.
Now I'm not really a huge Sam Adams fan, but this one was top notch. This one is absolutely amazing and really floors any other chocolate beer out there on the market. If you aren't into sweet beers, stay way from this one. If you want a great beer with dessert, then this one is for you. Sip this one slow and really enjoy it."

"Pours a deep mahogany black-brown with a nice thick creamy head leaving some tight lacing. Good carbonation. Rich aromas of vanilla, sweet malts, Swiss chocolates and a very slight mild hops presence. Taste is exquisite with a rich, creamy smoothness from the hint of chocolate and vanilla then a noticeable maltiness that is sweet and slightly thick on the tongue finishing with touch of semi-sweet chocolate and hint of hops bitterness. This is one fine Bock in an extremely nice bottle. Even better with my wife's banana-date bread! "

"Aroma is fairly strong, richly of molasses and chocolate with a hint of salt, more like the tang of a sea breeze. Color is a rich opaque chocolaty brown, appetizing and inviting. Malty flavor has a strong chocolate undertone, sweet hints, and just a touch of a salty tang. It leaves a molasses-like sweetness on the lips and tingles on the way down."
