Formulated by brewer Derek Bailey, the Summer Wheat is a filtered German-style wheat beer known as a Kristal Weizen. Unlike an unfiltered hefeweizen, our Summer Wheat has a clean, clear appearance. Made with the finest German malts available, the malt bill is sixty percent German wheat combined with German Pilsner and Munich malt. German Hallertau hops give this beer a classic, traditional flavor and aroma. Old Dominion rotates their summer wheat seasonal recipes, so make sure you don't confuse this with the others.

"A nice take on the style, although clearly not "authentic," as this one had some creativity burried within. The aroma was spicey (cloves mixed in with almost a ginger-ness) with some citrus notes and slight American wheatiness. The flavor was a citrusey malt base with spices and pepper noticeable in the finish. Finish also featured a zing from the hops and dry wheat aspects. Pretty tasty and refreshing, but there were absolutely no bananas to be found in this one. Did they filter it just so they could blame the absence on the filtering process?"

"Clear yellow with a good white head. A bit of floral hops, banana and clove is good. A bit of old fruit that some german weizens get. Warm maltiness in the flavor. "

"Crisp and clean wheat beer. Clear yellow color. A moderate amount of wheatyness with some spices (though not clove). Flavor is lemony with some grassiness with a tart tang finish. An alrighty summer beer."

"Good presentation: firm, developed head with nice substance, but lacking in retention. Armona a bit lacking--somewhat stale. Acceptable body with lemony overtones; good balance and finish that keeps it a bit above average."

"Pours a golden pale yellow orange with a low white head. Low on lacing. Aroma is tinny and grassy. Flavor is sour with a bit of a bite. All in all this is good and drinkable, probably especially good on a hot day."
