"Clear copper with very little head. There’s a surprising bit of chunky caramel and cake despite the very light body."

"Despite my reservations about this style of beer (read: I normally detest "red" ales), there wasn't a whole lot to chose from at this place. Along with the fact that I knew that this was the brewpub's very freshest beer on-tap (I overheard the brewmaster and the bartender talking), I gave this a try.
I'm glad to say that I wasn't too disappointed. Like the Special Ops Pale Ale, this seemed to lack a certian amount of gumption, as far as the mouthfeel goes. Maybe this place is simply afraid of scaring away it's local clientele with anything >1.045 O.G.?
But for what it's worth, this wasn't bad. Said to be made with Cluster, Willamette, and Cascade hops (I could only pick out the Clusters, to be honest), this was balanced enough to keep it from get sweet and sticky and cloying -- my main complaint about the style in general.
Tasty enough, but kinda lacking, in the grand scheme of things. I was able to blow through this pint of beer without a whole lot of thought. Perhaps it would be more interesting if served with some food....
