This is the flagship brand of the Mendocino Brewing Company. Red Tail Ale is an amber ale brewed in a traditional Old World Manner using premium two-row malted barley, hops, our own special proprietary yeast strain and pure water. Red Tail Ale's recipe calls for generous amounts of Pale and Caramel malt balanced by whole Cascade and Cluster hops, this makes it the substantial, full-bodied amber ale that has over the years become THE LEGEND.

"in a word, boring. one of the least impressive "amber" ales i've ever had. i can never quite understand why a breweries flagship beer would be this when there are way better beers in their arsenal, including the ever popular pale ale..."

"A hazy amber colored ale. The head is weak settles far too quickly leaving behind a thin, soapy lacing. A lot of malt is in the aroma and in the taste. If there is any hops, they are buried in the overwhelming sweetness of malt and dried fruit. The mouthfeel is more thin and watery than one would expect from an ale. "

"This was one of the less impressive amber ales that i have had. The Aroma was sweet for the most part like chocolate. The appearence was amber with a thin head. The mouthfeel was average to the thin side. The flvor was not so good, somewhat harsh a bitter like a pale ale but not in a good way. Overall somewhat dissappointing."

"Amber ales are a bore to me and this beer helps in my generalization... pours with an average head, and the lacing is pretty good actually ... smell is just plain jane stuff, as is the taste- some bitterness but it seems a bit jumbled... for the price not 2 bad but falls quite short of a repeat... cement is only sand that sets.."

"Thin sudsy head, medium copper color. Leaves a fair amount of lacing on the glass, with great head retention. Amply carbonated, which saves it from being too watery. Smells sweet and fruity. Drinking this is almost like biting into a fresh, crisp apple with a zing of bitterness at the end. Finishes very clean, with only a minimal resiny aftertaste. "
