Each batch of this light, fruity ale is made with 84lbs. of raspberry puree. It has a brilliant pinkish tint and a hint of natural raspberry tartness. Introduced in the Spring of '94, it was so popular that we now brew it year 'round.

"Aroma is sweet, malty, ans of some raspberries. Appearance is hazy, with some slight purple haze as well as light pink with a well-carbonated head on top that dimishes as I sip it. Mouthfeel is wet-like, with decent complexity as well as nice, sweet malt with a palate that is wet and thirst-quenching. Flavor is of raspberry, sweet malt, and fruitiness dominates. Overall, this is a Purple Haze clove in my opinion. "

"Blah, too much raspberry. How can I rate this fruit beer? No wheat character, all lost to the fruit in both aroma and flavor. Well, the lacing was pretty nice, along with a decent initial head. Really pink color was a turn off. Only plus, was a notable hops presence. Not a good beer. Note: by recommendation of the server, I tried this with the porter (not a black and tan, both beers mixed quite well) and found that there is a good use of this beer. The concoction exceeded Weyerbacher's and Magic Hat's raspberry / stout style brews."

"Well, this was one beer style I was not expecting to find when I walked through the doors of the Destin brewpub recently. Beer menu write-up mentions that it uses 84 pounds of raspberry puree, and that it was first brewed in the Spring of `94 (and is now a year-round offering). Interesting.
Interesting raspberry tartness in the front, middle, and the finish, with next-to-no hops to speak of. While my first impressions of this were positive, one nagging feeling kept on hitting me as I went through the rest of the sampler/taster: "This small taste isn't bad, but would I want a full-blown pint of this?". And to that question, I'm not so sure.
Which leads me to the crux of the matter. This isn't bad at all in small doses. But I honestly think that after a full pint, you would get sick of the sweet n' sour, and crave some sort of balancing. Perhaps this might work best as a "chick beer" (a.k.a. "wine cooler-ish"), but I really don't know.
As a homebrewer, I've tried making good balanced raspberry wheat ales in the past, and it is certainly no small feat. Along those lines, this beer from McGuire's could use a bit more recipe tweaking, even if it has been "popular since the Spring of `94". Whatever.
