"This place is Maryland's beer mecca. I pray on my hands and knees in Max's direction three times a day. This place has it ALL! Mdsmith and I have been here a few times together and had great success knocking some hard to find brews off of our "to do list." Mdsmith mentioned St. Bernardus on tap - last time I was there they had the 12 ABT quadruple flowin' through the lines. It was stellar. Finally, the atmosphere is great and all beers are served in the appropriate glassware.
Max's is HIGHLY recommended."

"Man I wish this I lived next door to this place. Amazing beer selection. I was there this weekend and they had 75 brews on tap and over a couple hundred in bottles. The staff really seems to know their stuff. The draft selection seems to change pretty often. They carry everything from Rochefort 6'8 and 10 in bottles to St Bernardus triple on tap. Tons of both imports and micros. If you live in Baltimore then you should have already been here and I you visit Baltimore than you gotta stop in."

"I love Max's on Broadway. When I moved to Maryland, this was the first true "beer bar" that I found in the area. As I walked in for the first time, I was greeted by a wall of tap handles and fully stocked refrigerators. Beer everywhere! This was my weekend hangout every weekend.
Over the years, as I've gotten older, the number of trips has dropped off from weekly to once every couple of months. That's not due to the quality of the bar dropping off, I'm just getting old!
Bottom line, this bar has the best and greatest selection of draught beers around. It is a must for any local or visitor coming through the Baltimore area.
BTW...last time I checked they had a nice cigar lounge upstairs to sit around in and enjoy a stoggie with your beer."

"Following my visit to the Wharf Rat @ Camden Yards, took the short drive East to Fell's Point, one of the very few places I remember hitting during my last journey to Baltimore (November `91). Memories of Fell's Point have gotten a bit hazy over the years, but did remember how seemingly each and every pub was over-crowded. So it was with a bit of trepediation that I put this place on my Baltimore Beer Wish-List. But Max's came heavily recommeded (by both the locals and out-of-towners) on BeerFly, so decided to give it a fair shake.
Basically, I'm glad I took a stab at this place! In a word, it rocks! A ton of taps line the bar-top (and the bar-back) along the right-hand side as you walk in, too many too count, really. Now, I'm not one to wet myself seeing a ton of tap handles at first glance. Often times all the handles mean either lots of BMC variations, and/or certian offerings sitting around for weeks and weeks (months?) -- yeah, I'm looking at you, The Yardhouse and The Goat Hill. But if you closer at the draught lineup at Max's (or, rather, take a good hard look at the printed off tap list), there really is very little "crap on tap".
Over the course of my visit, I hit the cask-conditioned beers first of course: the RCH PG Steam and the Gale's Christmas Ale. Both very nice, and the first time I've been impressed with a Gale's beer, to be honest. Later, moved on to the Blue Point Hopitical Illusion (nice name, nice beer), and then a 2002 (yes 2002!) Sierra Nevada Big Foot.
Finished off the visit with something of a joke beer: the bartender wanted to make sure I got a taste of "old school Baltimore", by buying me a cold National Bohemian! Now, I've had worse than "Nah Boh", but yeah, like every "good"/bad schwill, drink it fast n' cold, or not at all...! ;^)
Not sure about the food -- I was a taste-tester for the chili the cook was working on. And um, yeah...., it was an okay bean n' beef stew, but not really chili! And I also had a few much tastier BBQ/teriaki wings (again, compliments of the house).
Along those lines, service was down-right excellent all around. Two servers, who not only took good care of me, but were nice to talk to, and genuienly seemed to enjoy their jobs. Refreshing, that!
A real class-act joint -- quite the opposite from what I expected from what I tend to think of when someone says Fell's Point (read: frat boys and alcohopop-drinking chicks). Just a shame that folks have to deal with the Fell's Point scene (i.e. parking/traffic) to get in on this mighty fine beer joint...
Highly recommended.

P.S. The bartenders were messing around behind the bar, and I ended up with one of their "experiments" (for lack of a better term!).
~ Rim a Martini glass with Old Bay spice.
~ Pour ice-cold National Bohemian into the glass.
~ Add one BBQ Chicken Wing (!?) into the beer for garnish.
Bottom's Up!
(Yeah, I gave it one polite sip, and it was just as nasty as you might think!)"
