"Aroma on this offering is of malty sweetness as well as roasted malt and caramelization with some burnt overtones. Appearance is a rich and dark burgundy in color with a full head on top that is light-tan to brown in color and is well carbonated leaving fuzzy and rocky lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is light-bodied and damned tasty with tons of caramel malt character and balance that showcases complexity of the style. Flavor is of sweet malt, caramel, toffee, some vanilla, as well as some sweet malt with not much of a hoppy-bitter backbone with an aftertaste that is almost dessert-like with the caramelization and has a finish that is well-rounded and very wet-like with roasted malt character and creamy nuttiness but does offer some sizeable levels of bittering hops. Recommended."

"Pretty good amber, largly due to the above-average hop kick for the style. Pours an amber/copper color with foamy head. Aroma is mostly of hops--citrus and pine. Taste is likewise hoppy, bitter with little malt backbone. "

"This beer pours with a nice medium to dark amber tbody topped off by a creamy khaki colored head that left very nice lace down the sides of the glass. The aroma is slightly off balance full of spicy, floral hops with just a touch of sweet maltyness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly acidic. The flavor matches the aroma quite well with lots of spicy hops overpowering the light caramel malt that comes through in the finish. Overall its a pretty nice amber ale. "

"I've been itching to try Magic Hat for some time now. It's not the best scenario that my introduction to them is with this beer, but it could be worse I guess. The beer isn't bad, it's just....an amber, which is about as exciting as a brown. Or an American wheat. Anyways, the beer was good with enough of a floral/citrus aroma combo to seem interesting. The flavor was too plain with very little sweet malt character I enjoy, which caused it to lack in body. A nice hop character though, with enough piney hops to notice. Carbonation nearly overwhelms the beer though. I'll be looking for more Magic Hat beers to try. "

[5] Review by kinger from North Canton, OH, USA who has tried this beer a couple times. (1/4/2008 10:01:50 AM)
"I enjoyed a couple bottles of this hoppy, winter, seasonal ale. Noticeable citrus hop aroma, malty as well with a hint of coffee. Dark amber appearance with a large tan head and spotty lacing. Fresh and filling on the palate with a crisp hop bite. Great taste with a healthy dose of citrus American hops along with malt flavors of bread and caramel. A faint hint of coffee and smoke, very faint but it's in there. Overall this beer resembles a standard American Pale Ale that contains a heartier/deeper malt profile. Drinkable and very fresh, I am impressed by Magic Hat with this one."
