"Bottle, 07 Mystery Pack. The pour was brown with some reddish hues, generous initial head, yet it faded and didn't stick around too long. The aroma was strong roast, chocolate, lightly fruited. The flavor was like a train wreck between a porter and almost a dark belgian ale, really roasted malt, almost peat type flavors, sweet and even fruity (some subtle raspberry hints even?) nuances on the front of the tongue and even as an aftertaste, interplaying nastily with a huge heavy and even bitter roast. Diacetyl noticeable, roast unpleasant, meh. Hard to believe MH was the first microbrewery I toured and one of the key early players in turning me into a craft beer dork, as they just don't work for me much anymore."
