In his 80-plus years, brewery patriarch "Mac" MacTarnahan won more than 50 World Master gold medals in wrestling, steeplechase and distance running. So it's no surprise that his Amber Ale - in its debut year - captured a coveted gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival. MacTarnahan's Amber ale is dry-hopped with fresh Cascade hops from the great Northwest. That's what gives Mac's its crisp, complex flavor. When beer lovers say "Gimmee a Mac's!" it's understood they want a great-tasting, smooth-drinking ale.

"Pours a clear amber with a nice head and ample lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of Cascade hops with a slightly toasted sweet malt. Taste is smooth and balanced with a surprising amount of hops for an amber, countered with a very nice slightly sweet malty backbone. A nice amber. "

"Mac's always brews really good beer and they did it again. Dark copper in color with hints of malt. Smells sweet with a slight chocolaty smell. The flavor is robust and smooth. Great beer and not to expensive"

"Clear, amber body with an off-white head. Sparce lacing, but it was certainly better than none at all. Hoppy aroma at first, but malty notes appeared once the head receded. The flavor was a pretty good balance of hops and malts (the hops more prevalent), and there was a pleasant, bitter aftertaste. Lively carbonation, but the overall weight seems a tad on the lighter side. In general, this is a fine amber ale, but it comes across as merely "standard." "

"Nice beer. Poured a slightly cloudy golden color with a nice head. Had a nice malty aroma with a good touch of hops. Flavor consisted of caramel maltiness and a little hops. Its hard to detect the hops since I just finished a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale, but they're there, trust me."
