"this was my first ever chocolate stout back in 2001(?). pours jet black, sweet malt and chocolate up front, nice body, if a little on the thin side. smooth, with a slightly surprising, slightly bitter finish. solid beer, great as a float."

"Pours opaque black with a creamy, beige head. Roasted, vaguely burned aroma. Rather light-bodied with an underlying sweetness and some burned accents that don’t leave much bitterness though."

"I can't get enough of the stouts. This adds to the richness of experience. This one pours with a deep ebony body. The offwhite head is a little wanting. The nose is of a milk charcoal and some malt notes. Taste is distinctly sweet and chocolatey"

"Poured out a foamy medium brown head that fizzled down to a thick ring and light surface cover on top of a "close as you can get to black without being black" brew. Pretty good aroma overall with noticeable dark roast, dark chocolate malts and coffee (not a dominant presence). The taste revolves around the dark roasted malts with chocolate, coffee, toffee and an interesting mix of hops along with cherries. Full bodied, quiet carbonation and quite smooth and silky. The aftertaste is pretty much the same as the taste along with a bitter finish that linger forever. The cherry flavour seems to subdue the coffee flavour especially after my brew was quite warm. This beer really grew on me especially after my first impression, which was less than impressive. 8 Ball has some qualities that I am usually not a huge fan of but Lost Coast puts it all together in this beer. Highly drinkable.
update, 4 days later. just drank one and was fairly unimpressed. a re-review is a must. Seems like your typical west coast USA stout today... just a teeny bit better."

[5] Review by Stoutlover72 from Northern, California, USA who has tried this beer once. (11/26/2007 3:09:33 PM)
"Not a bad stout at all. You can find this in most grocery stores throughout California so the availability factor is off the charts. A nice aroma mocha, sweet with a touch of molasses. Appearance is nice but I barely got the foamy head even with an agressive pour. Mouthfeel is slightly thick and smooth. Flavors are nice enough with notes of coffee, light chocolate, maybe some molasses but it all seemed rather uninspired. Maybe even boring. Still, it's nice enough to drink again. There are plenty of other beers to hit up before having to resort to this beer again though."
