Way down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers age their whiskeys for many years in oak barrels. Over time, some whiskey is lost to evaporation. They refer to this loss of spirits as "The Angel's Share." Each time a barrel is filled, a measure of this liquid seeps into the oak and is lost forever.
Our Angel's Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. As with all of our beers, this beer is brewed for sinners and saints alike. So be an angel and share it with a friend or two.

"Bottle from JohnC, most likely an 07 vintage. Pour was deep brown with orangey type hues. The aroma was strong oak and sawdust, light bourbon. The flavor was oak, bourbon, sour lactic cherries w/ some bret?, caramel, very light maple, vanilla, with a touch of a lightly bitter chocolate dryness in the end. The mouthfeel was surprisingly light for the style, far from sticky, drinks pretty smooth. With warmer temperatures, the sourness blended in with the more standard bwine flavors was quite nice. Top 50 beer in the world? I don't think so. Quite nice: indeed, as with most of the LA products! Thanks, John, for hooking me up!"

"Thanks to eaglefan538 for generously waiting forever for me to get around to share this with him. Dark ruby brown, some white head. Hard to describe the aroma, but this beer really didn’t smell good. The flavor started out as overly sour but this settled into an outstanding brew as it warmed. Oak and whiskey from the barrel were overwhelming, but in a welcoming way. The dryness and sourness on the tongue just dared me to keep on sipping. Another unique and memorable experience from Lost Abbey."

"Bottled. Deep ambery colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some nice wooden and raisiny notes as well as vanilla and fruits. Some slight alcoholic sweetness too. Flavour is very much the same, and in a a perfect balance. As it got a bit warmer also licorice and some slight alcoholic burning notes came through. "

"Bottled, shared by omhper. Hazy dark brown with a small light brown foam. Deep vinous and malty aroma of dried fruit, red berries, nougat, vanilla with subtle distinct hop notes. Feels very harmonius. Full bodied and vreamy flavour of dried fruit, dades, pepper, nougat and small notes of Seville oranges. Long finish with extremely well-hidden alcohol of dark chocolate, nuts, almond and sweet red berries. Worldclass!"

"2006 Barrel Aged Version - Tasted on tap at the 2007 Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival. The barley wine poured a deep amber color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is oak, bourbon, brown sugar, molasses and a touch of vanilla. A full-bodied barley wine. The malts are caramel, fruity, sweet. There are pronounced brown sugar and dark fruit flavors in this one, which combine with the bourbon sweetness. Very complex beer. Very smooth tasting. The 10.5% alcohol is slightly noticeable. Excellent beer. Contrasted nicely with the 2007 version at the fest as well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Aroma is malt, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate and brandy. Med to full bodied barley wine. Malts are caramel and toffee. Touch of oak and vanilla. Very smooth, but this one still has a touch of an edge to it. Nice balance of oak and caramel. Very complex beer. Contrasted nicely with the 2007 version at the fest as well.
