Way down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers age their whiskeys for many years in oak barrels. Over time, some whiskey is lost to evaporation. They refer to this loss of spirits as "The Angel's Share." Each time a barrel is filled, a measure of this liquid seeps into the oak and is lost forever.
Our Angel's Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. As with all of our beers, this beer is brewed for sinners and saints alike. So be an angel and share it with a friend or two.

"12.7 Oz. corked and wired bottle, as The Lost Abbey Angel’s Share, 2009 vintage, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.5%. Nearly black colour, low tan head. Strong sweetish fusel aroma bordering on "sickly", strong oaky notes. Moderate carbonation in the glass. Intense sweet and malty flavour with strong notes of oak, dark dried fruits and old sherry, partly balanced by noticeable hops in the finish. Oaky aftertaste.

"2008. 375 ml. Courtesy of Jake65. Ok, I’m well aware of the carbonation issues with this beer but it’s one I’ve wanted to try for a while now so I was still looking forward to it. First of all, the aroma is amazing. Brandy, toffee, molasses, plums, red licorice, oak, blend to make a wonderful scent. Deep brown color with some red tint and no surprise pours out with no head at all, even with a vigorous pour (hey, I can try!). A few lonely bubbles float around the edges. The lack of carbonation doesn’t at all kill this beer, it’s very tasty, but man with just a little it really would be world class (and perhaps almost worth the price). Warming, soothing, with some alcohol burn to let you know it’s there but otherwise gentle. After all the negative stuff on this beer I really thought I was going to bash it but not the case. No carbonation it’s still very good. Properly carbonated, I’d like to find out!"

"An overpriced beer in the city of Toronto, but I had heard some good things from friends in California. This bottle was dated 2007 and is 11.5%. It poured a dark brown with black hints, and a thin tan head. The aroma was dark fruit, alcohol, and dark malts. The flavour was very flat as only the malt and alcohol came through, resulting in a sweet malty beer that warmed on the way down, but had little else going for it."

"Sampled from bottle, big thanks to Chris M. Pours murky reddish-brown with no head or lacing. Not pretty, but that's intentional. Incredibly complex aroma with over-ripe dark fruit, leather, vanilla, burnt sugar. Caramel, vanilla, oak, prune, chocolate and toast. Full-bodied, not carbonated and warming. A unique beer and worth trying. "

"Pours a thick-looking blackish red color with almost no visible carbonation. Aroma is overwhelming with notes of sweet malt and intense alcohol. The flavor has a whiskey quality with a lot of vanilla and woodiness even though my sampler was not the bourbon barrel. There is a subtle sourness to balance all the sweet malt. Alcohol plays a flavor role, but a very small one compared to the role it plays in mouthfeel. Full bodied and viscous with serious warming affect. A wonderful sampler."
