"Aaah at last. Mr Hayden gets on the bottling bandwagon...
For mine, the beer at the Lord Nelson has always been reasonable to good... You would not make the trip just for the beer, but for the overall experience.... beer, food, atmosphere, lack of poker machines....
But these days, there are finer beers available in other establishments in Sydney, so the "overall experience" factor is no longer the exclusiver domain of the Lord...
So, it's with great interest I try the bottled beer. Is it better than the draught variety ?
A: White froth head, sinks to a thin slick. Cloudy orange, like a Hefe.... good bubbling
S: Fruity... starts out with hints of apricot & pear, warms to lychee. Touch of caramel.
F: A discernable spicy note...musky pepper. Touch of caramel sweetness, with a medium bitterness.
M: Quite a good body.... almost creamy, with a good effervescence.
O: I think it's better than my memory of the draught version, although I haven't been to the pub for some time. Must drop in and check it out.
