"If you have this in a bottle, be very careful opening it because it foams like all-get-out!
Pours a rich, opaque sable with a very thick and fairly persistent dark tan head. Aroma is fairly strong and has chocolate, smoky and coffee components. Flavor is like cold coffee with some sweet fizz and an undertone of dark chocolate. There is also some apple flavor and a bit of an alcohol nip, giving the taste a cidery component. Texture is smooth but not watery."

"Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a deep black color stout with a big light brown foamy head with some good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of roasted malt is mix with some sour bretty notes. Taste is also a mix between some roasted bitter malt notes with some sour and bretty notes which didn’t mix very well IMO. Medium body with some good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I am usually one up for experiment but the mix between stout and bretty Belgian is something I could do without."

"Well, it was pretty chilly last night and tonight it is going to be the same so what better way to usher in my favorite Ol' Man Winter by opening this dark ale. I must admit, upon opening this brew the carbonation was light considering all their other brews and I like that. Aroma is very robust and roasty with coffee on the nose and has some woody and earthy overtones as well as some dark chocolate and cocoa and some bitter hops. Appearance is tremendous and is so black and dark light does not penetrate and has a head that is full-bodied and rich and creamy and hardly diminishes and is a medium-brown in color and leaves thick lacing. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and very well-rounded with awesome complexity and balance with a palate that is thick and chewy and coats the tongue well. Flavor is full and rich with Belgian funk and some chocolate with overtones of burnt wood as well as some leather and licorice with earthiness with an aftertaste that becomes a bit dry with burnt coffee and dark cocoa and has a finish that showcases some tartness and sour as well as some bittering hops and is very creamy and smooth. Overall, probably the best brew from these guys yet and leaves a coffee aftertaste that I like and is a very good representation of the style with not much of the alcohol blowing the top off this one and is a great Winter brew as well as a dessert brew; this brew brings new meaning to the term "meal in a glass" for sure! Great product..."

"This stout pours a deep black color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head. Aroma is roasty malt, chocolate and coffee and then there is the funk. Medium bodied stout. Malts are roasty and coffee. Hops are floral and earthy. Its interesting, a funky stout. Not sure I like this beer. I have sampled it several times and am just now rating it. There is something about the roast and funk that I like and dislike at the same time. So most of this rating is on technical merit and not so much on how I feel about it. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is tart and funky. "

[5] Review by Brett from Far from good beer, OK, USA who has tried this beer once. (8/30/2007 8:33:42 PM)
"Sampled from bottle. Pours opaque blackened-brown with a creamy tan head. Its aroma is is bold and complex with mocha, ripe cherry, pipe tobacco. Slightly bitter, tart flavor. Brett(?), oak, pepper, chocolate, coffee. Really wild flavors. Silky mouthfeel with a suprisingly clean finish. I really enjoyed trying this beer. Not sure I would grab one often, but I would drink it again. Perhaps a good beer for a red wine drinker looking to try some well-made beer?"
