"Visited this establishment on a recommendation from pfoxyjohn when traveling across Wisconsin earlier this week. It was a very good suggestion for a place to go.
First off I went in there late on a Sunday night and there was still a decent crowd there eating dinner and drinking beer. I pulled up to the bar and the first couple of things I noticed was the number of mugs hanging around the bar. Looks like they had a pretty good mug club going.
I also noticed how many tap handles they had. Very good selection of in house crafted brews. I'm not going to waste your time going into my reviews of all the beers here. You can check them out in the beer review section. The one thing I did like though is that it is apparent the brew master is willing to take risks. Not all of the beers were hits with me. That's OK. What I liked was that there were styles that I had never tried or would have never thought of mixing together. One example was the Caramel Alt which sounds a little odd, but was pretty good.
For food I had the pizza. Not the best pizza I've ever had, but by far it wasn't the worst. It was pretty good actually. The menu looked pretty good as there was quite a bit of choices to pick from.
The service was very good there with two gentlemen patrolling the area behind the bar. Both were very attentive and always made sure I had everything that I needed. One of them even pumped some quarters into the jukebox for some Sublime and Pink Floyd listening pleasure. That's A-OK in my book.
Bottom line, check this place out when you are in the Madison area. It's a great local joint typical of a place that I'd hang out around my home. "

"Totally by chance I ended up near this pub, and man am I glad I did. I wish I could have stayed to try more of the beers they had on draught, but a nasty storm was brewing outside. Overall my experience there was great. My only minor complaint is that it was so damn dark in there. I couldn't understand why the lights were barely on. Other then that, the bartender I had was awesome. He was very friendly, helpful and quick to answer any questions I had about the food or beer. A really downhome place, it does have that family restaurant atmosphere but at the sametime maintains fresh tastey beers on tap. I would recommend checking this place out if you happen to be in Madtown."

"This is is my "Cheers" bar, where everybody knows my name. The place where I choose to hang my mug. I've been to many brewpubs with better atmosphere, many with better food, and even several with better beer. Including maybe one or two right here in Madison. But this is the place I'm most comfortable and where I can always depend on high quality, value and consistency. It's similar in feel to a combination sports bar, neighborhood pub and family restaurant. The food is mostly typical pub fare, but nicely done. The Scotch Egg is terrific, and I'm a regular for the Fish Fry on Wed and Fri. The beer is great; Rich Becker is a master. Always at least a dozen beers available including many out of the ordinary; Rauchbier, Biere de Garde, Grand Cru, Double IPA, several diferent Alts, etc. Over the past few years I've had maybe 40 diferent beers, all of them quite drinkable, and many simply outstanding. And the bar tenders are, for the most part, helpful, knowledgeable, and responsive. My kind of place."

"Nice place in Madison. The food was pretty good. I had the Smokehouse Brewery Bacon Burger, and it was great. The beers were all pretty good, with the exception of a Popcorn beer that I don't think they make anymore. Service was okay. Place was nice. I'd definitely go back if I was in Madison."
