Great Divide’s Maverick Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. Brewed with seven different malts, it opens up with big, roasty malt flavor and then gives way to rich caramel and toffee notes. Maverick Imperial Stout gets its bold hop character from an enormous quantity of American hops. It weighs in at 9.5 % alcohol by volume, and a hefty 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

"Nice chocolate and coffee flavors... not too sweet or too thick. I don't think there is a blacker black. It was beautiful. One of the better stouts that I've sampled lately. Never would have guessed the alcohol content - quite smooth with a great finish."

"Not a huge fan of many stout type beers but given the fact that I have yet to have a bad beer from Great Divide (oak the rice brew was rough) I gave it a shot and it was worth it. It has a nice chocolate flavor with an amazing coffee smell."

"Bottled on 2/16/05....Sampled on 8/30/09: This one was aged quite a bit, so I was a little worried before opening it, but it still had a strong robust flavor and didn't seem "soured". Dark black appearance, thick heavy body. Lots of malty flavors going on...chocolate, coffee, and toffee. I think I liked this better than Expedition Stout, and perhaps has as much flavor as Stoudt's Fat Dog and Stone Russian (my two favorite IPS's), but maybe not as "smooth". A great IPS that I will be trying again."

"this one came in the mail courtesy of Chef Chad yesterday and it was down the hatch as soon as it chilled. i had it side by side with a Victory storm King, as i thought the hoppiness of the beers would make them similar, and an interesting comparison. I really like the complexity & drinkability of SK, but I gotta say, Yeti kicked it's butt! The aroma is nice if not great. Less hoppy than expected, but a well balanced mix of hops, coffee, roasted malt. the beer looks simply amazing. smooth tight dark brown head atop a motor oil body. I like an imperial that no light gets through, and this was one of them. the choclatey head just added to it. the body was big, yet incredibly smooth, and the flavor and overall impression of the beer was actually more similar to Rasputin (tap) than SK. Chocolate and coffee notes, lots of roasted flavors, and a slightly bittersweet finish. Better than Raspi in a bottle, about even to the draft version. Great beer, ALMOST as good as the whiskey barrel aged (which was quite a surprise). I gotta say, the top 10 impy stout list is lookin mighty impressive right about now..."

"I have had this monster of an imperial stout on several occasions, but for some reason I didn't review it. Here goes. Pours an almost black color with a thin tan ring which hangs around for a while. Coffee and chocolate with a hint of hops and a bit of alcohol on the nose. Tastes of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts with a hint of licorice and smoky wood. There is a faint taste of hops which, when paired with the malts, helps carry the bitter, but delightful finish. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Absolutely delicious. IMO, right up there with Bell's Expedition Stout. I'm a big fan of Great Divide (love their IPA's) and they once again raised the bar. Luckily, I'm sitting on a bottle of Oak Aged Yeti that I'm saving for a special occasion. Highly recommended! "
