"16 oz draft with lunch at the Wash, DC restaurant. Compared to Sam Adams Black Lager, GBS is lighter brown (still opaque), with a lighter tan head, more foam (1/2") and more lace. The aroma has an appealing chocolate fudgecicle note to it. There is a subtle, sweet malty taste to this lightbodied and easy drinking lager. This is my new favorite from the Gordon Biersch line. "

"This was probably the best of the sampler. A black apperance with a reddish hue. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, and licorice. The flavor is quite roasty with some chocolate and coffee. The finish is rather dry. Overall this wasn’t bad at all. "

"Sampled at one of their brewhouses in San Jose. Has a pour like an stout and dark. Had a smooth drink and a decent flavor. Had very little aftertaste and very little flavor. Overall one of the best from GB but not great."

"My new favorite Gordon Biersch beer, hands-down.
`Nuff said? No? Okay, here goes....
Had a glass of this at the Tyson's Corner location -- a place I wouldn't have treked to, if I didn't happen to have a hotel room across the street...!
Like most Gordon Biersch beers, this is fairly solid, though perhaps a little too safe for true riches and glory. Have never run across a Gordon Biersch beer that really made me stand up and shout; but on the other hand, have never had a Gordon Biersch beer put me to sleep, either.
This one happens to fall nearer to the former than the later, thankfully. Went well with my Jambayala, FWIW.
A nice amount of roastiness to this one, that increases slightly as the beer clams down, and warms up some.
Some nice dryness in the middle and back-end, too. No Stout, obviously, but, at the same time, much more approachable and appealing than it's brother Gordon Biersch beers in the drinkability game, that's for sure.
Overall, my new go-to beer, if and when I happen to find myself living in a shotgun shack...., umm, I mean, at a Gordon Biersch location... ;^)
Cheers!
